摘要: A sacrificial catheter assembly and method of use for placing a functional catheter within the body of a patient, such as into the patient's vasculature, is disclosed. In one embodiment, the sacrificial catheter assembly comprises a sacrificial catheter including an elongate body that defines a longitudinally extending lumen. A stylet is removably received within the lumen of the sacrificial catheter such that the catheter and stylet can be advanced together to a target destination within the body of the patient. The sacrificial catheter is configured so as to then be proximally slid over the stylet to remove the sacrificial catheter from the body while the stylet remains in place at the target destination. A functional catheter can then be distally slid over the stylet to place the functional catheter at the target destination. The stylet can then be removed from the body of the patient.

摘要: A guiding catheter for delivery of intravascular devices to a patient's coronary sinus. The guiding catheter has a relatively stiff proximal section and a relatively flexible distal section, the latter being about 1 to about 6 inches in length and being configured to subselect a branch cardiac vein leading to the coronary sinus. The distal shaft section preferably has a proximal portion which has a flexibility greater than that of the proximal shaft section, and a distal portion which has a flexibility greater than that of the proximal portion of the distal shaft section, and at least one of the distal portion and the proximal portion being shaped with a bend to facilitate entry within the patient's coronary sinus. An inflatable balloon may be disposed on the distal shaft section. The guiding catheter is particularly suitable for delivering an intravascular device for sensing electrical activity into a cardiac vein to detect such activity from within the blood vessel.

摘要: A catheter and method of making the same, including an elongated tube structure having a proximal end and at least one preset curved portion proximate a distal end. The preset curved portion includes a first material located generally along an outer surface of the preset curved portion and a second material located generally along an inside surface of the preset curved portion. The first material preferably has a greater stiffness than the second material, so that the catheter is capable of assuming a generally straight configuration without plastic deformation.

摘要: A soft tip guiding catheter for atraumatic insertion into delicate, tortuous coronary vessels and introduction of an angioplasty balloon catheter therethrough. The guiding catheter includes a main tubular portion and a soft tubular tip with cooperating bonding surfaces for increasing the contact area and strength of the thermal bond therebetween. The cooperating bonding surfaces each include a proximal ground taper portion with a braid material included therein and a distal longitudinal portion without the braiding material. The main portion preferably includes an inner layer of lubricous material, an outer layer of a polyether block amide, and a reinforcing braid positioned therebetween. The main tubular portion also includes distal and proximal segments heat shrink bonded together to provide changes in durometer along the length of the catheter. The layers of the main portion provide a thin catheter wall with pushability, torquability, and kink resistance.

摘要: A guiding catheter used for coronary angioplasty procedures includes an plurality of ports in the wall of the guiding catheter. A moveable member is disposed in the lumen or wall of the guiding catheter and is selectively movable between a first position blocking the ports and a second position not blocking the ports. The moveable member is shown as an elongated stylet, a hollow tube with matching ports or a plurality of inflatable balloons. The catheter is positioned adjacent to an artery to be examined. The ports are blocked by the moveable member while contrast medium is injected through the guide catheter to the artery. The ports are opened otherwise to enable the flow of blood between the catheter and the artery.

摘要: An access tube is used for accessing an anatomic space, such as a pericardial space between the parietal and visceral pericardia. The access tube is advanced against the parietal pericardium and an anchor structure thereon embedded into the parietal pericardium. The access tube can then be used to separate the parietal and visceral pericardia and enlarge the pericardial space. After such enlargement, a needle or other access device can be introduced through the access tube into the pericardial space to provide access for a wide variety of purposes, including aspiration, infusion, and guidewire placement.
