The feed unit includes a cutting arrangement for cutting a profile portion of the winding profile from the master. The cutting arrangement is arranged within a cutting zone of the device remote from the welding unit such that, after cutting of the winding profile, the end portion of the winding profile cut from the master is fed from the cutting zone to the welding unit and at least one further weld is made between the cut-off end portion of the winding profile and a longitudinal profile to produce the metal mesh reinforcement.

A method of welding reinforcement steel bars (rebar) and assembly of fusion-welded rebar into panel assemblies that are self-stabilizing to withstand the rigors of transport to and positioning within construction sites. The rebar welding method generates fusion welds in such a manner that the weld imparts stability and strength to the welded rebar assemblies. The rebar welds permit the assembling of larger and more varied rebar panel configurations without the need for tie wire or other coupling devices. Further, the welded panels allow positioning of large rebar configurations, insuring that the spacing of the individual bars exceeds all required tolerances. The self-stabilizing fusion rebar welding process allows a more efficient, flexible and rapid method of rebar panel construction by using assembly systems on mobilized trailers or at stationary locations.

A novel method and apparatus is disclosed for the production of single plane ladder-type rack strip material in which wire cross bar elements are Tee-welded to the inside surface portions of opposed, parallel side elements formed of similar wire material. The welding procedure involves contacting the cross bar element centrally with an electrode of a first polarity and contacting the wire side elements on opposite sides with electrodes of a second polarity. During the welding operation, current flows substantially equally from the first electrode in opposite directions through the opposite weld interfaces to the opposed second electrodes. By observing physical symmetry in the electrical supply at opposite sides, equalization of current flow is optimized so that the emerging rack strip product is flat and straight, suitable for commercial marketing. By forming the rack strip elements in a single plane, the elements can be formed into a wide variety of modular components for the assembly of a variety of useful rack and shelving structures. Novel forms of mounting and connecting blocks are also disclosed.
