摘要： A log rest assembly for use in a portable sawmill has a log rest post mounted on a first end of a cylindrical mounting rod. The log rest post is fixed to a cylindrical log rest sleeve such that the log rest post remains perpendicular to said mounting rod. A stationary collar is affixed to the mounting rod. A compressible collar is mounted onto the mounting rod between said cylindrical log rest sleeve and said stationary collar. The compressible collar and the stationary collar provide pressure on the cylindrical log rest sleeve to constrain rotation of the log rest in relation to the mounting rod.

摘要： What is disclosed is an improved method of sawing wood and an improved sawmill capable of producing vertical grain lumber. Vertical grain lumber is a preferred lumber for use, for example, in trim applications. The improved method and improved sawmill both utilize a track having a carriage, the carriage has a vertical blade and a horizontal blade. The vertical blade and the horizontal blade travel on the carriage down the track. The log is then rotated for another length of lumber to be cut. In a preferred embodiment the sawmill utilizes a skewer for adjusting the log. In a preferred embodiment the log is held by a lathe that can be moved. In a preferred embodiment the log is placed on a skewer before it is engaged by the lathe.

摘要： A vacuum assisted stick and lath placer has a magazine for holding a stack of elongate members for transverse placement onto an upper surface of a tiered lumber package of longitudinally aligned tiers of lumber. A selectively actuable shear positioned beneath the magazine is selectively horizontally actuable so as to push a bottom-most elongate member from beneath the stack of elongate members into a pickup position along a travel path of a selectively telescoping vacuum pickup. The selectively telescoping vacuum pickup is selectively extendable between a retracted position, a first extended position corresponding to the pickup position, and a second extended position corresponding to the upper surface of the tiered lumber package.

摘要： A scrag saw mill provided with a pair of dogging carriages each carrying a pair of dogs located at opposite sides of the log to be sawed. The dogs are operated by thrust rods from hydraulic cylinders to force the dogs into clamping positions on opposite sides of the log. Means are provided for causing either of said cylinders to exert a predominant force on the log to jog it into place and to equalize the forces to clamp it in place. The log is driven through the mill by an independently driven dog and the carriages are released from the log before they reach the saws. The carriages are returned to predetermine positions as the log proceeds through the final stages of its sawing process.
