    摘要: A hydrostatic extrusion apparatus whereby thermoplastic polymers can be hydrostatically extruded in a solid state is described. The apparatus includes:(a) an outer casing or tooling support means,(b) a container assembly concentrically contained within the outer casing and having pressure means attached thereto to provide extrusion pressure to a fluid in the assembly, sealing means to prevent leakage of the fluid, means for holding a polymer billet and including a die portion, and(c) a receiver assembly axially aligned with the container assembly concentrically within the outer casing having pressure means to clamp the container and receiver assemblies together, a mandrel for holding and aligning a mandrel-head in spaced relationship with the die, and means for receiving, lubricating and cooling the extrudate.Optionally, means for preheating and loading the polymers into the container assembly are provided whereby the press may be operated on a semi-continuous or continuous basis.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for densifying an article wherein the article is disposed in a first molten salt pressure transmission medium in a container. The first medium is heated to a first elevated densifying temperature. The container is disposed in a second molten salt pressure transmission medium at a second temperature lower than the first temperature. The first medium and the second medium are communicated so that pressure applied to the second medium is transmitted to the first medium. Pressure is applied to the lower temperature second medium sufficient to densify the article disposed in the first higher temperature medium. Following densification of the article, the container is removed from the second medium. The method and apparatus are especially useful for closing internal porosity of metallic and intermetallic castings.

    摘要: A hydrostatic extrusion apparatus whereby semicrystalline thermopolastic polymers can be hydrostatically extruded in a solid state is described. The apparatus includes an outer tooling support means; a container assembly aligned within one end of the outer support means and having pressure means contiguous therewith whereby pressure is applied to the apparatus to both rigidly align the tooling and provide sufficient pressure for extrusion of a polymer billet within the container assembly and a receiver assembly coaxially aligned with the container assembly in the other end of the tooling means. The container assembly includes a container means, sealing means to prevent leakage of hydrostatic fluid in the container means and a die portion on the inner forward surface of the container means. The receiver assembly includes a concentrically aligned mandrel which supports and aligns a mandrel-head in spaced relationship with the die portion of the container means. Means are also provided for receiving, lubricating and cooling the extrudate in the receiver assembly. A base portion supports the extrudate receiving assembly and coacts with the pressurizing means in the container assembly to rigidly align and clamp the tooling means together.

    摘要: A stationary main cylinder, spaced behind a billet-receiving container located behind an extrusion die, contains a ram projecting from the front end of the cylinder. Piercer cylinders are mounted on the opposite sides of the main cylinder and have open front ends from which piston rods extend forward and carry coupling cylinders. A piercer crosshead in front of the ram is rigidly connected to the coupling cylinders behind an extrusion crosshead connected to the ram by means extending past the piercer crosshead. Plungers disposed in the coupling cylinders are rigidly connected with the extrusion crosshead, from which a hollow stem extends forward. A mandrel holder carried by the piercer crosshead extends forward through an opening in the extrusion crosshead for supporting a mandrel in the stem. Means are provided for supplying hydraulic fluid to the cylinders in a predetermined sequence to move the crossheads in unison and also relative to each other during piercing and extruding of a billet.

    摘要: A furnace for vacuum-pressure-sintering has a furnace chamber which is enclosed in and insulated from a surrounding pressure chamber. The pressure chamber includes a bottom projecting into it at the lower end and has at the upper end a charging opening and a lid projecting into the charging opening. A housing can be applied over the charging opening and connected to a vacuum pump during the part of the operating cycle when the pressure in the furnace is to be below atmospheric pressure. The lid is formed of an outer annular part and an inner part, separate from each other, the outer annular part remaining in position when the inner part is removed. A heat radiation protection ring is provided for insertion into the opening into the annular part when the annular part is raised. A lifting device for the lid is provided inside the housing.
