摘要： A postage meter has a secure housing, an accounting register within the secure housing, and a print rotor the rotation of which defines a paper path. The rotor axle is formed of two halves, and within the two haves is a lengthwise cavity along which setting racks are capable of axial movement. The racks engage with print wheels at one end and are accessible to the main body of the postage meter at the other end. Each rack engages with its value wheel in a rack-and-pinion engagement. The axle halves are made of plastic and they snap together. The racks slide within grooves, and are held in place with pins. The axle has journal bearings and a thrust bearing defining its movement relative to the secure housing. A worm gear in the housing engages a worm wheel in the rotor to bring about rotation of the rotor for the printing of postage.

摘要： The franking value or stamp index wheels mounted in the franking head of the franking machine are adjusted by in each case one pinion, which meshes with the engagement tooth system of a rack. In addition, each rack is provided with a driving tooth system electromagnetically operated by adjusting rams and a retaining tooth system in which engage two retaining pawls. An electromagnetic drive engages and disengages the retaining pawls with the retaining tooth system when the machine main shaft is in the set position. A sensor monitors the engagement movement of the retaining pawls, so that an incorrect position of the racks and therefore an incorrect setting is detectable by the franking machine control unit.

摘要： A printing machine which has a printing cylinder (1) having automatically incremented numbering barrels (2) includes drive means (40-45) which normally maintain the printing cylinder in speed and phase synchronization with a train of documents on a web (11). The drive means is operable to decelerate the printing cylinder and then to cause the printing cylinder to regain its normal operating speed so that the web overtakes the printing by a selected distance before the next printing nip is formed.

摘要： A mailing system including a postage meter adaptable to either a high-speed mailing machine capable of parallel postal value selection or a low-speed mailing machine capable of serial value selection is disclosed. The postage meter includes a print drum with printing value members. A rod extends outwardly from the drum. The rod contains linear racks that are axially located above the horizontal centerline of the rod. The linear racks interact with the value members to provide the proper value setting. Attached to the postage meter are a plurality of cross-over shafts with pinion gears. The gears engage the racks to facilitate value selection. In the high-speed mailing machine, a series of drive members engage the shafts. Apparatus within the high-speed mailing machine causes the shafts to rotate in a parallel fashion to allow for postal value selection to facilitate postal printing. In the low-speed mailing machine, one drive member engages on e shaft of the postage meter. Apparatus within the low-speed mailing machine causes the pinion gear to engage a rack to provide the proper print value. The apparatus in the low-speed machine also causes the drum member to rotate so that the other racks can be serially acted upon by that shaft-pinion gear arrangement to provide the proper postal value to facilitate postal printing. In accordance with this embodiment, a locking device is utilized to prevent inadvertent movement of the adjacent rack members when one rack is being adjusted.

摘要： An electric numbering machine which continuously prints a number of large figures by use of a single figure wheel, is compact in size, and reduces the printing operation time. A case of the machine is provided therein with a shaft interposed between a pair of support plates rocked by operation of a solenoid, and rotated by a pulse motor; a figure wheel fitted to the shaft to rotate integrally with same; a ratchet intermittently rotated by operation of the solenoid via a feed mechanism; a brake pawl cooperating with the ratchet to restrict return rotation of the ratchet; a drum cooperating with the ratchet to rotate integrally therewith; and a tensile member having one end fixed to the drum and the other end fixed to a support of the figure wheel. The figure wheel is moved by the tensile member one figure at a time along the shaft against resiliency of an elastic member, and a release member is provided so as to release engagement of the feed mechanism and the brake pawl with the ratchet so as to return the figure wheel to the start position thereof after rocking and movement of the figure wheel is repeated to print the number of digits of predetermined figures and after printing is complete. Various buttons including figure buttons for inputting and setting the number to be printed and instruction buttons for generating various print instructions are disposed on the case.

摘要： Apparatus for printing tickets on an elongated web or thin, flexible sheet material comprising means for controllably advancing said web across a printing station. A printing assembly is provided at said station comprising a primary drum mounted for rotation about an axis transversely of and spaced parallel to said web and a plurality of printing indicia are circumferentially spaced on at least a portion of the periphery of said drum. Indexing means is provided for rotating the secondary drum relative to the primary drum to position a selected indicia on the former adjacent a selected indicia on the periphery of the latter. Primary indexing means is provided for rotating said printing drum to place any selected indicia on the drum into the printing position, and print hammer means, swingable about an axis parallel to the primary axis from a rest position to a printing position, is provided for urging the web into momentary printing contact against selected indicia on either drum.
