The central control unit receives condition information from the condition indicating devices and sends orders to the controlled devices. The memory of the computer contains two instruction sequencies identical in view of their result for treating each of the controlled and indicating devices and two separate memory fields for storing the information necessary for carrying out said two instruction sequencies. A definite logical relation exists between at least the address in the respective memory fields, the bit significance in the respective memory words and the bit representation in the respective memory words. The control devices receive control orders according to both instruction sequencies and upon correspondance between them carry out an order. The condition indicating devices give two separate condition information data having the logical relation to each other defined by the organization of the memory field.

As long as the remote control system functions properly, cyclically alternating signals, triggered at the transmission side, set a logic element at the receiving side so that the loads are connected for normal command-responsive operation. When the signals fail, or when a transmission is intentionally suppressed, the logic element is conditioned to cause execution of the specific switching routine. Given the design of the remote control system as a light signal control for traffic signals, the switching routine causes the connection of the STOP signal with simultaneous disconnection of the GO signals of the respectively affected light signal.

A vehicle control unit for a short-distance traffic system is disclosed wherein a plurality of vehicles are controlled from a center. Each vehicle carries at least two on-board computers each of which process the control commands coming from the center to provide commands to on-board units and compiles telegrams to the center concerning the condition, location and speed of the vehicle in response to information from the on-board units. Both computers perform the necessary processing independently of each other. A comparator ensures that commands to the on-board units and the compiled telegrams are not sent until this information is received in identical form from both computers. Each computer delivers life signals at regular intervals to an associated emergency brake circuit, which initiate emergency braking if life signals from the associated one of the computers are not received within a given period of time. In the event of a malfunction in a computer, a standby computer or a pair of standby computers is put in action.

The LED circuit and the sensing circuit are arranged such that the light-controlled variable resistor monitors an output of the LED array, and that the relay functionality triggers the mechanism to connect or disconnect the LED circuit based on the output of the LED array.
