A method is disclosed to dissolve cupric oxide (CuO) deposits on a strainer in a stator water cooling system (SWCS) of an industrial electrical power generator. The method injects carbon dioxide (CO2) into the coolant to increase the CuO solubility of the coolant. By increasing the solubility, the CuO level in the coolant is less than saturated. The unsaturated coolant dissolves the CuO deposits on the strainer.

A portable dechlorinator filter, primarily designed for use in dechlorinating the water in a bath tub or the like, is in the form of a hollow ball made of plastic material. The plastic ball includes a number of perforations or apertures through it to permit the free flow of water from the exterior of the ball through its interior. Filter material made of a copper-zinc compound or brass-zinc compound is provided in the form of elongated filaments (manufactured on the order of steel wool and the like). The filter material is encased in a water-permeable, gauze-like cover placed inside the plastic ball. The gauze-like cover prevents broken ends of the filaments from protruding through any of the holes in the ball. The ball is made of two releasably interconnected hemispheres; so that spent filter material can be removed and replaced with new filter material.

A composition and method particularly designed to treat blackwater deposit. In at least one example, a composition for use in removing and preventing buildup of blackwater deposits in blackwater collection/treatment systems. The composition includes in the range of about 2 to about 15 wt. % of acidic solubilizing agent; in the range of about 0.2 to about 8 wt. % of wetting agent; in the range of about 0 to about 1 wt. % corrosion inhibitor; and a solvent/carrier medium. Another aspect is a concentrated composition to be diluted before or during use, the concentrated composition comprising in the range of about 10 to about 70 wt. % of acidic solubilizing agent; in the range of about 1 to about 40 wt. % of wetting agent; in the range of about 0 to about 5 wt. % corrosion inhibitor; and a solvent. In another example, a method for removing and preventing buildup of blackwater deposit in a blackwater collection system. In at least one example, the method includes: contacting at least a portion of the blackwater collection system with the blackwater deposit treatment composition above; and removing at least a portion of the treatment composition from the portion of the blackwater collection system.

An improved alkaline cleaning solution that has the ability to descale, derust, and completely dissolve machining lubricants coated on steel and other iron alloy objects, the alkaline cleaning solution consisting essentially of: (a) water; (b) about 10% to 95% by volume of a water-soluble descaling and derusting agent; and (c) about 2% to 8% by weight of a water-soluble sequestering agent selected from the group consisting of sodium gluconate and its functional equivalents. A process for descaling, derusting, and completely dissolving and removing machining lubricants coated on steel and other iron alloy objects, the process comprising the steps of: (a) providing an alkaline cleaning solution consisting essentially of water, about 10% to 95% by volume of a water-soluble descaling and derusting agent, and about 2% to 8% by weight of a water-soluble sequestering agent selected from the group consisting of sodium gluconate and its functional equivalents; and (b) contacting the object with the alkaline cleaning solution at a temperature of about 120° F. to 140° F. for about 15 to 35 minutes, whereby the object is descaled, derusted, and the machining lubricant is completely dissolved and removed.
