    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for recovering aminobenzoic acid from an aqueous mother liquor which is produced on crystallization of aminobenzoic acid. The process comprises a step (A) of fermenting a suitable fermentable raw material in the presence of microorganisms to form aminobenzoate anions and/or aminobenzoic acid; a step (B) of crystallising aminobenzoic acid at a pH of 3.0 to 4.7, wherein this crystallisation can be carried out during and/or after the fermentation; a step (C) of extracting the aqueous mother liquor of the crystallisation using an alkanol with 8 to 12 carbon atoms to obtain a first alcoholic phase containing aminobenzoic acid and a first aqueous phase; a step (D) of back-extracting aminobenzoic acid from the first alcoholic phase using an aqueous base solution or acid solution to obtain a second aqueous phase containing anions and cations of the aminobenzoic acid and a second alcoholic phase; and a step (E) of crystallising aminobenzoic acid from the second aqueous phase by feeding the latter back into the crystallisation of step (B) or in a separate crystallisation.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to an improved electrodialysis method for preparing an amino acid (e.g., iminodiacetic acid) from a salt of the amino acid (e.g., disodium iminodiacetic acid) utilizing a two-compartment bipolar membrane electrodialysis process wherein at least a portion of the salt product stream comprising the amino acid and one or more salt thereof is recirculated to the two-compartment bipolar membrane. The process also comprises removing at least a portion of the recirculation stream and phosphonomethylating the amino acid therein. The process further comprises recovering a base product stream and utilizing the base product stream for preparing the salt of the amino acid.

    Abstract: The invention generally relates to systems with anti-fouling control and methods for controlling fouling within a channel of a plug flow crystallizer. In certain aspects, the invention provides a system that includes a plug flow crystallizer having a channel, one or more heating/cooling elements, each operably associated with a different segment of the channel, and a controller. The controller is operably coupled to the one or more heating/cooling elements and configured to implement a temperature profile within the channel of the plug flow crystallizer that grows crystals in a plug of fluid that flows through a first segment of the channel and dissolves encrust in a second segment of the channel while having minimal impact on crystal growth in the plug of fluid in the second segment of the channel. In certain embodiments, these segments may be cyclically alternated, in that the segment in which crystal grows in one cycle becomes the segment in which crystal dissolves in the next cycle and vice versa, to realize a fully continuous crystallization process.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a process for the separation of long chain amino acid and long chain dibasic acid, comprising: (1) recovering alkylamine from an aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide hydrolysis of the mixed amide derivatives by distilling or by extracting with an extractant solvent; (2) cooling the aqueous solution of step (1) to precipitate a mixed alkali salts of long chain amino acid and dibasic acid; (3) recovering the mixed alkali salts of long chain amino acid and dibasic acid to provide a mother liquor; (4) separating long chain amino acid and dibasic acid by acidification-extraction of long chain dibasic acid with an extractant solvent or by selective dissolution of alkali salt of long chain amino acid in an aqueous solvent; and (4) adding an acid to the mother liquor of step (3) to obtain alkanoic acid.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a process for the purification of long chain amino acids by recrystallization in an aqueous solution of organic carboxylic acid in the absence or presence of solvent, comprising: (1) dissolving a long chain amino acid in an aqueous solution of organic carboxylic acid by heating; (2) cooling the solution of step (1) to crystallize the long chain amino acid; and (3) recovering the long chain amino acid of step (2) by means of solid-liquid separation.
