Abstract:
A dry powder that contains carotenoids produced by grinding a mixture of carotenoids and oil to reduce the carotenoid particle size, emulsifying the mixture with an encapsulating mixture, and drying the emulsification. The encapsulating mixture includes a starch encapsulating agent, a sugar, and an anti-oxidant. The resulting water-dispersible powder contains a high concentration of carotenoids, yet is protected from oxidation.
Abstract:
The preparation and use as odorant and/or flavorant of compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents a butyl, but-2-en-yl or 1,3-butadienyl group.
Abstract:
A process for introducing an allyl-positioned carbonyl group into a 2,6,6-trimethylcyclohexene ring which carries a polyenyl radical in the 1-position, by oxidizing the ring with a halogen(V)-oxyacid or a salt of such an acid, and the new oxo compounds obtainable by the said process, which may be used as dyes for foodstuffs or cosmetics. The oxidation is carried out in the presence of a catalyst and of an inert diluent or solvent, in an acid medium. Suitable catalysts are bromine and iodine and the oxides of elements of groups Va, VIa, VIIa and VIII of the periodic table.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR PRODUCING 3 - METHYL - 5 - (1-HYDROXY2,6,6 - TRIMETHYL - 4 - OXO - CYCLOHEX-2-EN-1-YL)-PENTA-2,4DINE-1-OIC ACID, DERIVATIVES THEREOF AND RELATED COMPOUNDS WHICH ARE USEFUL AS PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS, FROM 4-(1,2EPOXY-2,6,6 - TRIMETHYL - CYCLOHEX - 3 - EN-1-YL)-BUT-3-EN2-ONE OR 3 - METHYL - 5 - (1,2 - EPOXY-2,6,6-TRIMETHYLCYCLOHEX-3-EN-1-YL)-PENTA-2,4-DIENYL DERIVATIVES INCLUDING INTERMEDIATES IN THIS PROCESS.
Abstract:
A formulation includes an active agent, a thickening/solidifying agent, and an antioxidant. The active agent is 9-cis-β-carotene (9CBC) or a derivative thereof of the following formula:
where R2 is H or methyl; X is
optionally substituted with one or more methyl groups; n is an integer of 0-16; and the asterisk represents the point of attachment to the cyclohexene ring.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to an improved process for the production of 1,3,3-trimethyl-2-(3-methylpent-2-en-4-ynyl)cyclohex-1-ene, highly enriched in the Z-isomer, and the use of such compounds in organic syntheses, especially in processes forming intermediates (building blocks) the synthesis of vitamin A or β-carotene or other carotenoids, e.g. canthaxanthin, astaxanthin or zeaxanthin.
