Abstract:
A polyoxyalkylene monoalkyl ether which gives, in gel permeation chromatography, a chromatogram which satisfies a relation expressed by an equation: S1/S0≦0.15, wherein S1 represents the area under a portion of the chromatogram from the start of elution to the earliest elution time when the intensity of the refractive index has a value of L/3, L representing the shortest distance between the greatest maximum point of the intensity of the refractive index and the base line and S0 represents the area under a portion of the chromatogram from the start of elution to an elution time when the intensity of the refractive index has the greatest maximum value; a process for producing the above ether comprising adjusting the content of water in a reactor, which is used in addition polymerization of alkylene oxides with addition to a monohydric alcohol, so as to satisfy an equation: Wi×(Cf−Ci)/V≦10, wherein the content of water in the reactor is obtained by placing a solvent having a content of water Ci (ppm) in an amount Wi (g) in the reactor having an inner volume V (ml), stirring the solvent to clean the reactor, removing the solvent from the reactor and obtaining a content of water Cf (ppm) in the removed solvent; a polymerizable derivative of the above ether; a polymer of this derivative, and a dispersant comprising this polymer. A high purity polyoxyalkylene monoalkyl ether can be obtained and the dispersant comprising the polymer derived from this ether have an excellent dispersing property.

Abstract:
This invention relates to a conjugated diene-based rubber composition reinforced with silica-based reinforcement together with a non-silane coupling agent as N-3-(1,2-dihydroxypropyl)-N-oleylammonium bromide and/or N-3-(1,2-dihydroxypropyl)-N-methyl-2-mercaptoimidazolium bromide for endeavoring to both couple synthetic aggregates of precipitated silica to elastomers and enhancing electrical conductivity of such rubber compositions which contain less than 25 parts by weight carbon black per 100 parts by weight elastomer. Said coupling agent materials may be provided for mixing with said diene-based rubber(s), for example, as individual materials, as at least one of said materials being supported on a carbon black carrier or as being pre-reacted, or otherwise pre-treated, with synthetic silica aggregates. The invention includes an article of manufacture, including a tire, having at least one component comprised of such rubber composition.
Abstract:
Novel elastomeric compositions are disclosed, incorporating silicon-treated carbon black and pre-vulcanization modifier selected from non-silane polysulfidic organo-compounds. The silicon-treated carbon black particulate filler differs chemically and in its performance characteristics from simple mixtures of silica and carbon black fillers. The pre-vulcanization modifier is effective to substantially increase bound rubber content in the product of a non-productive thermomechanical working of a base composition incorporating the silicon-treated carbon black particulate filler and SBR or other such unsaturated elastomer. The thermal working takes place at a maximum temperature sufficient to vulcanize the unsaturated elastomer if it were in the presence of a suitable vulcanization system. The non-vulcanized rubber masterbatch produced by such thermal working, having substantially increased bound rubber content, can be admixed with a vulcanization system in a thermomechanical finishing step carried out at a maximum temperature less than the vulcanization temperature. The resulting composition can be vulcanized by thermomechanical working at or above the vulcanization temperature. The resulting elastomeric compositions in accordance with preferred embodiments are found to have improved performance characteristics, including hysterisis balance of low temperature traction and high temperature rolling resistance.

The present invention provides a rubber composition for tire tread having compatibility between low fuel consumption and abrasion resistance, especially abrasion resistance under severe condition. The rubber composition for tire tread is obtained by adding carbon black containing silica as 10 to 55 parts by weight based on a rubber component of 100 parts by weight and silica coupling agent of 2 to 8% by weight based on the carbon black containing silica.

Heterophasic polyolefin alloys, with a semi-interpenetrating network structure and an outstanding combination of high stiffness, low temperature toughness and optionally a low coefficient of thermal expansion of propylene polymers and elastomers, are produced by melt compounding propylene polymers with a co-continuous blend, which contains 5 to 60% by weight of gel and was produced by reacting mixtures of propylene polymers and elastomeric polyolefins or styrene butadiene ethylene terpolymers with ethylenically unsaturated, hydrolyzable organosilane compounds in the presence of silanol condensation catalysts. Heterophasic polyolefin alloys are suitable for the production of films, sheets, fibers, panels, coatings, injection molded article, pipes, hollow objects and foams.
Abstract:
The method and formula for tinting glass described herein employs a transparent acetate lacquer. The transparent acetate lacquer is derived from a base of cellulose acetate dissolved in an appropriate solvent. Preferably, additional ingredients are added to the formula to provide a lacquer that is easy to apply and which provides superior adhesion to the glass. The method of this invention includes applying a transparent acetate lacquer to glass and allowing the lacquer to dry. Application of the lacquer may be conducted by any conventional method including spraying and brushing. When dried, the lacquer provides excellent tinting properties.
