The article having a predetermined surface configuration is produced by setting a composition comprising a compound which contains a dimethylsiloxane skeleton having at least three recurring units and at least one polymerizable organic group in the molecule between and in contact with the surface of a substrate and the molding surface of a mold in the form of a film, applying at least one of heat and ultraviolet radiation to the composition, removing the mold, and heating as required to form a film having a surface configuration which is the inversion of the surface configuration of the mold on the surface of the substrate.

The invention is a method for manufacturing a surface covering product having a gloss controlled surface wearlayer coating and a curable composition used in that method. The preferred curable composition is a polymerizable coating which includes a di-isocyanate and/or isocyanurate structure, a polyester polyol, a hydroxy and acrylyl functional polyester, mono, di, or tri-functional acrylates, and a flatting agent and/or hard particulates. The preferred surface covering product is a floor covering product produced as a vinyl film that is precoated with preferably a wearlayer coating that is adhered to the vinyl film, and the surface of the film is preferably embossed. A gloss controlled surface coating is achieved by application of the preferred composition to the printed sheet of film, and the composition is then exposed to low intensity ultraviolet light followed by exposure to ionizing radiation from a low accelerating energy electron beam, which forms an abrasion resistant wearlayer with non-visible degradation of the printed film.

Ultraviolet rays are radiated over a lubricant film formed on the surface of a recording medium such as a hard disk. The recording medium is then subjected to exposure to a bases. The radiation of the ultraviolet rays allows the lubricant film to uniformly spread over the surface of the recording medium. The repellency can be enhanced over the surface of the recording medium. The friction can be reduced on the recording medium. Moreover, when the recording medium is exposed to the base, organic acid existing on the surface of the recording medium and/or in the lubricant film can be transformed into salt. The organic acid can be washed off or removed from the surface of the recording medium and/or out of the lubricant film in this manner. Less organic acid greatly contributes to prevention of generation of corrosion mounds on the recording medium over a longer period.

A laser marking apparatus and method for marking the surface of a semiconductor chip are described herein. A laser beam is directed to a location on the surface of the chip where a laser reactive material, such as a pigment containing epoxy, is present. The heat associated with the laser beam causes the laser reactive material to fuse to the surface of the chip, creating a visibly distinct mark in contrast to the rest of the surface of the chip. Only reactive material contacted by the laser fuses to the chip surface, and the remaining residue on the non-irradiated portion can be readily removed.
