Abstract: A cold rolled steel flat product for packaging made of a low carbon steel having a thickness of less than 0.49 mm and a method of making. The steel flat product has a martensite-free microstructure and represents a standard grade for packaging with tensile strengths from 300 to 550 MPa, which can be produced from a cold-rolled steel sheet with a carbon content from 0.01% to 0.1% by weight by inductive annealing of the steel sheet and subsequent water cooling for quenching the recrystallization-annealed steel sheet. To achieve flatness of 5 I-units or less, the induction annealed steel sheet is first primarily cooled in the manufacturing process to a take-off temperature at a rate of less than 1000 K/s, with the take-off temperature being below the transformation temperature of 723° C., and thereafter a secondary cooling by water cooling with a water temperature of less than 80° C. at a rate of more than 1000 K/s.

Abstract: A side spray method for cooling a steel strip after hot rolling includes providing side spray devices behind multiple cooling sections on two sides in a width direction of a run out roller table of the steel strip after hot rolling. The side spray devices are staggered along the two sides of the run out roller table of the steel strip, the side spray devices include at least two spray units, each spray unit includes a spray tube and nozzles on the spray tube, the spray tubes being in parallel and vertically arranged along a running direction of the steel strip, and being movable along the running direction of the steel strip, covering ranges of the nozzles on the side spray devices are partially overlapped with each other, and a total spray coverage covering of nozzles covers a width of the run out roller table of the steel strip.

Abstract: Moving metal strips can be heat treated with any number or combination of dimensionally variable tempers across widths, lengths, or thicknesses of a metal strip. To provide dimensionally variable heat treatment, an apparatus can include one or more heating units suitable to increase the temperature of a metal strip moving proximate the apparatus to a heat treatment temperature. The apparatus can also include one or more cooling units positioned near the heating units to absorb heat and cool the metal strip to minimize the amount of heat transferred from a first region of the metal strip that is to be treated to a second region of the metal strip that is not to be treated.

Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a stress relieved length of steel having an oxidised surface layer includes: a heating chamber; a reaction chamber coupled to the heating chamber; and a conveying mechanism conveying the length of steel along a path through the heating chamber and reaction chamber. The heating chamber includes a heating apparatus arranged to heat the length of steel in a heating portion of the path. The apparatus further includes a control means including a sealed unit defined by the heating chamber and the reaction chamber and arranged to control both the temperature of the length of steel and the atmosphere to which the length of steel is exposed in an oxidisation portion of the path within the reaction chamber in which the oxidised surface layer is formed. A method of manufacturing a stress relieved length of steel having an oxidised surface layer is also disclosed.

Abstract: Cooling device (1) for cooling a wire (100), comprising a first chamber (2) and a second cooling chamber (4) through which the wire (100) passes. The device also comprises cooling liquid driving means (16) for driving the cooling liquid from the first chamber (2) to the second chamber (4) through at least one coding liquid inlet (12). Through the driving means (16) and the cooling liquid inlet (12), a jet of coding liquid is projected on the wire path at a mean speed of at least 0.6 m/s, and at a distance between 6 and 13 times the diameter of the wire (100). Cooling is performed in an inert gas atmosphere inside the second chamber (4). The invention also relates to a corresponding installation and a corresponding wire cooling method.

Abstract: Disclosed is a continuous thermal treatment line for a steel strip. The strip passes through consecutive thermal treatment chambers, is quickly cooled in at least one of the chambers by spraying liquid onto the strip, or by spraying a fluid made up of gas and liquid or spraying a combination of gas and liquid forming a mist. After quick cooling, a protective metal layer is deposited on the strip by dip coating. The cooling fluid strips iron oxides or other alloy elements contained in the steel to be treated, minimizing oxidation and reducing the oxides on the strip. Spray pressure and distance are chosen to facilitate the stripping property and the mechanical action of the sprayed fluid, reducing the layer of oxides on the strip. The temperature of the strip at the end of the cooling step is the temperature necessary for carrying out the desired treatment cycle.

This device is characterized in that the water cooling units (7) are integrated in the strip flotation cooler (4).
