Abstract: Moving metal strips can be heat treated with any number or combination of dimensionally variable tempers across widths, lengths, or thicknesses of a metal strip. To provide dimensionally variable heat treatment, an apparatus can include one or more heating units suitable to increase the temperature of a metal strip moving proximate the apparatus to a heat treatment temperature. The apparatus can also include one or more cooling units positioned near the heating units to absorb heat and cool the metal strip to minimize the amount of heat transferred from a first region of the metal strip that is to be treated to a second region of the metal strip that is not to be treated.

Also disclosed herein are methods of providing metal articles having excellent bond durability.

Also described herein is a method of treating metal products (e.g., aluminum alloy products), including applying the coating composition to at least one surface of the metal product. Further described herein is a joined structure, including the coated aluminum alloy product and another metal or alloy. The coating compositions enhance the bond performance of the joined structures.

A method for producing thick gauge aluminum alloy articles can include continuously casting an aluminum alloy article and hot or warm rolling the aluminum alloy article. Also provided herein is a continuous casting system for producing thick gauge aluminum alloy articles. The disclosed thick gauge aluminum alloy articles can be provided in any suitable temper.

Abstract: Provided are new high strength 6xxx aluminum alloys and methods of making aluminum sheets thereof. These aluminum sheets may be used to fabricate components which may replace steel in a variety of applications including the transportation industry. In some examples, the disclosed high strength 6xxx alloys can replace high strength steels with aluminum. In one example, steels having a yield strength below 340 MPa may be replaced with the disclosed 6xxx aluminum alloys without the need for major design modifications.

Abstract: Described herein are pretreatment compositions, coated aluminum alloy products, and methods for coating the alloys. The pretreatment compositions include inorganic chemical corrosion inhibitors dispersed in a silane-based matrix and may further include clay particles. The inorganic chemical corrosion inhibitors include rare earth metals and salts thereof. The pretreatment compositions, when applied to the surface of an alloy, inhibit corrosion of the alloys. The pretreatment compositions can be used in automotive, electronics, industrial, transportation, and other applications.
