摘要: Inventive techniques for forming unique compositions of matter are disclosed, as well as various advantageous physical characteristics, and associated properties of the resultant materials. In particular, metal(s) (including various alloys, such as Inconel superalloys) are characterized by having carbon disposed within the metal lattice structure thereof. The carbon is primarily, or entirely, present at interstitial sites of the metal lattice, and may be present in amounts ranging from about 15 wt % to about 90 wt %. The carbon, moreover, forms non-polar covalent bonds with both metal atoms of the lattice and other carbon atoms present in the lattice. This facilitates substantially homogeneous dispersal of the carbon throughout the resultant material, conveying unique and advantageous properties such as strength-to-weight ratio, density, mechanical toughness, sheer strength, flex strength, hardness, anti-corrosiveness, electrical and/or thermal conductivity, etc. as described herein. In some approaches, the composition of matter may be powderized, or the powder may be pelletized.

摘要: [Technical Problem] An object is to provide a heat insulation coat having a novel form/structure different from conventional ones.[Solution to Problem] The present invention provides a heat insulation coat having a spongy body that is composed of non-linear pores and a skeleton incorporating the pores. The skeleton is an amorphous body comprising Al, Si, 0, and impurities and has an amorphous peak specified by X-ray diffraction analysis at a position of 3.5 Å or more as the lattice spacing. The heat insulation coat has an apparent density of 1 g/cm3 or less, a volumetric specific heat of 1,000 kJ/m3·K or less, and a thermal conductivity of 2 W/m·K or less. The spongy body is obtained through forming a base layer, such as by thermal-spraying an aluminum alloy that contains a large amount of Si, and performing an anodizing process by AC/DC superimposition energization on the base layer. The amount of Si in the base layer may be, for example, 16 to 48 mass % with respect to the alloy as a whole. The heat insulation coat of the present invention is excellent in the swing characteristics and may be provided on the inner wall surface of a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine.

摘要: This invention relates to thermal spray coatings and processes onto non-smooth surfaces. The coating and processes can coat non-smooth surfaces without substantial degradation of the underlying surface texture or profile of the non-smooth surfaces so as to sufficiently preserve the underlying surface texture or profile. The ability for coating fractional coverage to maintain the surface profile while maintaining wear resistance is unprecedented by conventional thermal spray processes.

摘要: A thermal spray powder is provided that contains, as constituent elements, a first element selected from W and Mo; a second element selected from Co, Ni, and Fe; a third element selected from C and B; and a fourth element formed of Si. The amount of the second element in the thermal spray powder is 40% by mole or less. The mole ratio of the fourth element to the second element in the thermal spray powder is 0.002 or greater and 0.03 or less. The thermal spray powder has a crystal phase containing Co, Ni, or Fe; W; and C or a crystal phase containing Co, Ni, or Fe; W or Mo; and B. In an X-ray diffraction spectrum of the thermal spray powder, the peak intensity attributed to Co, Ni, or Fe is at most 0.1 times the largest peak intensity in the same X-ray diffraction spectrum.
