Abstract: A coated component includes a component having a surface, and a solid lubricant wear resistant coating on the surface, wherein the solid lubricant wear resistant coating includes a solid lubricant phase with a negative thermal expansion coefficient material dispersed therein. The component may also include a coating having oleophilic or porous properties disposed on portions thereof, and a coating having oleophobic properties disposed on portions thereof.

Abstract: Various embodiments provide materials, parts, and methods useful for electronic devices. One embodiment includes providing a coating on at least one surface of a substrate, increasing an amorphicity of the coating, and incorporating the substrate including the coating having increased amorphicity into an electronic device. Another embodiment relates to frictionally transforming a coating from crystalline into amorphous to form a metamorphically transformed coating for an electronic device. Another embodiment relates to an electronic device part having a metamorphically transformed coating disposed on at least one surface thereof.

A thermal spray coating composition can include about 7% to about 9% by weight aluminum, about 5% to about 7% by weight silicon, about 1% to about 3% by weight manganese, about 1% to about 14% by weight copper, with a remaining balance of iron. The thermal spray coating composition can include about 2% to about 12% by weight copper.

Abstract: An iron-based sprayed coating for coating a bore inner surface of a cylinder block for an internal combustion engine. A coating surface contains pits, its pit amount is within a range of 0.01% to 2.1%, and an average roughness Ra of this coating surface is within a range of 0.01 μm to 0.15 μm. The cylinder block for an internal combustion engine includes a bore having this iron-based sprayed coating on its inner surface, and a cylinder block body having the bore. A sliding mechanism for an internal combustion engine includes this cylinder block for an internal combustion engine and a piston slidable with the bore of this cylinder block. The piston has a piston ring, and the piston ring has a chromium coating, a chromium nitride coating, or a diamond-like carbon coating at a sliding part with the bore.

The alloys can be designed through the use of different compositional, thermodynamic, microstructural, and performance criteria. In some embodiments, chromium content in the alloy can be increased while avoiding the formation of different hard chromium carbides, thereby increasing the corrosion resistance of the alloy.

Abstract: A substrate for depositing diamond by CVD, comprising a base body of hard material and a coating layer that holds diamond particles as seed crystal in a matrix and is deposited joined thereto on a surface of said base body, wherein: the seed diamond particles have an average particle size of 1 μm or smaller; the matrix comprises a first metal selected from a first group of Si, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W and/or a first compound between said first metal and a non-metallic substance selected from boron, carbon and nitrogen, said matrix holding the diamond particles distributed therein; and a joint zone developed as a result of a diffusion process and extending over said base body and coating layer comprises either or both atoms of said first metal and a component metal of the hard material.
