    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a coated paper product comprising:—a paper substrate comprising a first and second side:—a first coating layer on the first side of the paper substrate, wherein the first coating layer comprises ethylene-acrylic acid (EAA) or vinyl acetate acrylate copolymer (VAcA) or styrene-acrylate (SA) or acrylic latex; and—a second coating layer on the first coating layer, wherein the second coating layer comprises EAA and talc, and wherein the dry weight ratio of EAA to tale in the second coating layer is between 100:5 and 100:70,—wherein the coat weight of the first coating layer is at least 4 g/m2, and—wherein the coat weight of the second coating layer is at least 3 g/m2.

    Abstract: Aqueous coating compositions for coating fiber-based products are provided that comprise an acrylic latex in an amount of from about 48 wt % to about 80 wt % based on dry solids content of the composition; talc in an amount of from about 20 wt % to about 50 wt % based on dry solids content of the composition; and chemically functionalized, cold water soluble, anionic starch in a dry solids content of from about 0.1 wt % to about 10 wt %, wherein the aqueous composition has a total dry solids content of from about 30 to about 70 wt % based on the weight of the total composition. Methods of preparing the coating composition, fiber-based products comprising a coating of the coating composition, and methods of preparing these coated fiber-based product are also described.

    Abstract: The present invention provides water-based coatings that provide liquid resistance when applied to various substrates. The coatings are particularly suitable for cellulosic substrates such as paper or paper board. In addition to liquid resistance, the coatings have good heat sealability, and are resistant to roll blocking. Preferably, the coatings are recyclable and/or repulpable with the substrates to which they are applied. The coating compositions comprise one or more polymer binders, and one or more particles. Preferably, at least one polymer binder has a glass transition temperature (Tg) less than 10° C. Preferably, at least one polymer binder has a heat seal onset temperature of less than 200° C. Preferably, at least one particle has a mean particle size greater than 4 μm. It is also preferable that the particles have a melting point greater than 60° C.
