Abstract: The present invention provides a fluorine-free water- and oil-resistant coating composition comprising 30 wt % to 97 wt % biodegradable polymer in dry weight, less than 25 wt % crosslinking agent in dry weight, less than 25 wt % nanoparticles, less than 15 wt % plasticizer, less than 15 wt % surfactant and less than 1 wt % antifoaming agent in dry weight. The fluorine-free water- and oil-resistant coating composition relates to green chemistry and demonstrates both water resistance and grease resistance.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a coated paper product comprising:—a paper substrate comprising a first and second side:—a first coating layer on the first side of the paper substrate, wherein the first coating layer comprises ethylene-acrylic acid (EAA) or vinyl acetate acrylate copolymer (VAcA) or styrene-acrylate (SA) or acrylic latex; and—a second coating layer on the first coating layer, wherein the second coating layer comprises EAA and talc, and wherein the dry weight ratio of EAA to tale in the second coating layer is between 100:5 and 100:70,—wherein the coat weight of the first coating layer is at least 4 g/m2, and—wherein the coat weight of the second coating layer is at least 3 g/m2.

Methods of preparing the coating composition, fiber-based products comprising a coating of the coating composition, and methods of preparing these coated fiber-based product are also described.

Abstract: The present invention provides water-based coatings that provide liquid resistance when applied to various substrates. The coatings are particularly suitable for cellulosic substrates such as paper or paper board. In addition to liquid resistance, the coatings have good heat sealability, and are resistant to roll blocking. Preferably, the coatings are recyclable and/or repulpable with the substrates to which they are applied. The coating compositions comprise one or more polymer binders, and one or more particles. Preferably, at least one polymer binder has a glass transition temperature (Tg) less than 10° C. Preferably, at least one polymer binder has a heat seal onset temperature of less than 200° C. Preferably, at least one particle has a mean particle size greater than 4 μm. It is also preferable that the particles have a melting point greater than 60° C.

Abstract: A fire-resistant retail product packaging, such as sleeves, pouches, wraps, and the like, that is capable of containing fires of high intensity for products such as lithium-ion batteries. The fire-resistant paper comprises Kraft paper with a preferred eight of 40 to 60 pounds/3,000 ft2, and a fire-resistant ink applied to each side of the Kraft paper. The fire-resistant ink includes an acrylic resin, a dispersant, and a boron compound, and optionally, talc and a molybdate compound. When heated, the fire-resistant ink preferably converts the Kraft paper into a non-combustible and heat shielding substance.

Abstract: Coating compositions are disclosed that can be applied to at least a food-facing surface of a molded fiber container to make the coated container suitable for applications involving long term storage of a dry or frozen food item combined with short term contact with the food item in a liquid or moist state. The coating compositions include carboxylated polyvinyl alcohol copolymer and a crosslinking resin that is epichlorohydrin-based and/or azetidinium-functionalized. The compositions can also include clay particles or other suitable fillers. After crosslinking and drying, the compositions form a thermoset barrier coating in which the polyvinyl alcohol is bonded to the crosslinker by a plurality of function groups including ester functional groups.

Abstract: A photographic paper comprising a base layer having an average surface roughness (Sa) of at least 0.7pm and an outer-most layer comprising a hydrophilic colloid binder and colloidal silica, wherein: (i) the weight ratio of colloidal silica to hydrophilic colloid binder in the outer-most layer is 0.05: 1 to 0.28:1; and (ii) the amount of colloidal silica present in the outer-most layer is in the range of 8 mg/m2 to 280 mg/m2. The photographic paper is useful for preparing ‘non-noisy’ photobooks.
