The drain including a housing extending upwardly and outwardly from the flat roof, a sump extending downwardly and inside the flat roof, a liquid pump for draining the water collected from the flat roof, a discharge line connected to the liquid pump and being located in the sump of the drain. The discharge line passing through one of the four walls of the sump, thus allowing it to extend under the flat roof and inside the building. The drain also including a heating element for keeping the standing water collected in the sump in a substantially liquid state within the drain so as to allow continuous discharging of the collected standing water even in sub-zero weather conditions.

A method and apparatus for removing sediment from a waterway includes a collector housing dimensioned for receipt in the waterway having an opening that receives water and sediment therethrough. A sediment removal passage in the housing selectively communicates with the opening and a valve is interposed between the opening and removal passage to control the communication. In a preferred embodiment, the valve is a flap or check valve that is normally open and, once sediment has been pumped down, moves to a closed position. This allows the suction force to be applied to the remaining portions of the collector having sediment. Preferably, the hoppers are replaceable inserts made of a durable, wear-resistant material.

The present invention is a filter system for a curb inlet catch basin which catch basin includes a ramp in the curb front which feeds into a catch basin to allow storm water to run directly along the curb and down the ramp and which also has a grated cover so the water can enter directly through the grate. The water collecting trough is mounted inside the curb inlet catch basin at the bottom of the entrance ramp and has raised walls for collecting runoff water. A weir is formed into one of the raised walls allowing the water to run out of the trough. An elongated hydrocarbon collecting boom is removably attached adjacent the weir and positioned for the drain water passing through the weir to pass thereover. The catch basin is removably mounted to the trough adjacent the weir and positioned to receive water runoff from the trough through the weir and over the hydrocarbon collecting boom. The catch basket has a bottom filter screen and a plurality of side filter screens to filter out solid materials from water passing therethrough along with an overflow grate to handle the flow that exceeds the capacity of the catch basket. The catch basket is held adjacent the weir with a pair of clips allowing for the quick removal for cleaning and replacement of the basket. A deflector plate is mounted beneath the curb inlet open grate for deflecting water passing through the grate into the catch basket.

The assembly includes a first trap member having a first wall and an outlet opening formed in the first wall and a second trap member releasably and sealingly engageable with the first trap member. The second trap member has a second wall spaced from the first wall when so attached. The assembly further includes a filter assembly releasably attachable to one of the first and second trap members, and having a filter member being made to capture matter entrained in drainage water. When the assembly is assembled, mounted in the side wall opening, and converted into a trap by providing the inlet opening in the second wall at a position below the outlet opening, there is defined a water flow path extending from the catch basin interior, through the inlet opening and then through the outlet opening, and the filter member is positioned across the water flow path to capture matter entrained in drainage water flowing along the path. The inlet opening is sized, shaped and configured to restrict water flow through the assembly to promote settlement of matter in the catch basin. Also provided is a method of capturing matter entrained in drainage water exiting a catch basin including mounting a filter member releasably to the catch basin side wall downstream of the side wall opening, the filter member being made to remove matter from drainage water flowing through the filter member.

The apparatus is a surface water purifying catch basin which uses a lamella separator to separate out fine sediment and a separate chamber to trap heavy debris, oil, and floating debris. The surface water enters an inlet chamber which is separated from a settling chamber by a divider wall that has a lower opening between the chambers and a higher overflow. The inlet chamber traps floating contaminates and those that are heavier than the water. The opening between the chambers permits the surface water to flow into and through the lamella separator. The catch basin exit is from the settling chamber, but the water can reach the exit only through the lamella separator that separates out the fine sediment in the water. All of the accumulated contaminates can be removed through access holes in the top of the catch basin.
