摘要: An inexpensive, insulated, upright wall, ceiling, floor or roof, made of panels fastened together at panel edges. Each panel has a can backing and supporting element (preferably masonite, but alternatively plywood, plastic, metal lath or the like), panel-reinforcing bars connected to edges of the can-backing element, a plurality of layers of randomly-placed cans on the can-backing element and within the bars, and a can supporting and stabilizing element on the side of the cans opposite to the can-backing element. Saving labor of more careful arrangement of the cans, and increasing the strength against breaking of the panel, they are heterogeneously dumped into the frame of the bars and the can-backing element; and preferably the frame is shaken to somewhat settle the cans in it. In further stabilization of the cans in place, preferably porous, insulating concrete material, or foamed concrete, or foamed polyolefin plastic material is placed on top of the assembled cans. The outer can-supporting element may be unitary--a panel surface formed of this concrete or foam-plastic material--but preferably it is composite and includes this material and other panel-surfacing material, such as a sheet of masonite, plywood or celotex, applied while the concrete or foam plastic is in pasty or fluent condition, adhering to the concrete or foam plastic. Optionally the cans may be glass bottles or jars, but preferably they are used cans of the beer or soft-drink type. Optionally: the concrete or foam-plastic material may be metal-reinforced; the side bars may be of wood; the frame, into which the cans are dumped, may be a box of molded plastic; or the cans may be dumped within a can holder, temporarily positioned within the outer frame, this holder being withdrawn after the concrete or foam-plastic material is poured on top of and within spaces provided by the filler, the sides of the assembled cans, thus forming a plastic-material outer can-supporting element and associated side bars. The wall may include exterior masonry units, siding, or stucco.

摘要: A concrete pressure containment vessel for a nuclear reactor is described wherein an access opening therein is sealed by a closure member. A plurality of tendons extend generally parallel with the axis of the access opening and are distributed about the access opening and pass entirely through the main portion of the pressure vessel and also through the closure member. The tendons are placed under tension to secure and seal the closure member in place and to prestress the remainder of the pressure vessel.

摘要: A building element or block consisting of empty substantially uniformly sized cans which are assembled in a wall-like structure using mortar joints and without the necessity of embedding the cans in concrete or other cementitious material. Each element consists of first and second pairs of cans standing in a first direction, a third pair of cans disposed intermediate said first and second pairs, the principal axes of which are at right angles with respect to those of said first and second pairs. A seventh can is reduced to flattened condition and positioned between said first mentioned and third mentioned pair of cans, and an eighth can is similarly flattened to be positioned between said second pair and said third pair to serve as weather stops. The assembled element is maintained in such condition by wire cinctures held in position by the rims of said first and second pairs of cans.

摘要: Described in a displacement body for forming cavities in concrete structures. The displacement body lends itself to simple and cost-effective production, is extremely light-weight and still capable of meeting stability requirements. In a preferred embodiment the displacement body consists of a grid structure (1) formed of intersecting longitudinal and transverse rods, and plastic sheets (2a, 2b) applied to both sides of the grid structure and connected to one another and to the grid structure by welding and/or heat-shrinking. Further described are structures formed under employ of such displacement bodies, as well as advantageous methods for making same.

摘要: An upright-wall, ceiling or roof made of panels fastened together along contacting panel edges. Each panel is made of a can-supporting planar element (a sheet of plywood, masonite, plastic or the like), reinforcing bars defining outer edges of the panel, cans between the reinforcing bars, wide-mesh wire or plastic panel-reinforcing network on the cans, and molded matrix material (foamed, cellular, polyolefin plastic, or concrete of portland or other cement and sand or porous aggregate -- for example, cinders, vermiculite, pumice, charred sawdust or the like) on the cans. The can-supporting element is placed in a mold, cans are put on this element optionally parallel to it but with their axes preferably perpendicular to it, the wide-mesh network is placed on the cans, and the moldable plastic material in fluent form is poured or injected into the mold thru the wide mesh of the network around the cans and on the network. Each panel preferably includes attachment flanges that are integral with the reinforcing network and fastened to the panel-reinforcing bars. The wall preferably includes a wall plate (preferably of wooden material -- for example a sawed lumber plank or bar of masonite) fastened to tops of the panels, and includes wall-finishing material of bricks, concrete blocks, elongated bars or stucco, fixed to surfaces of the panels by mortar or the like.
