    摘要: A method of filling a cavity in a building block with aminoplast resin foam comprises locating a template (6,7) against and in sealing relation to that face of the block having said cavity opening therefrom characterized in that an aperture (5) defined in said template and at least as large as the opening in the block which communicates with the cavity is aligned and registered with said opening, followed by passing curable aminoplast resin foam into the cavity under pressure to fill said cavity and form an upstand (9) of foam relative to the face of the block in the space defined by the thickness of the template, and then removing the template to leave at least some of said upstand projecting from said face.

    摘要: ICMUs (insulated concrete masonry units) having an inner load-bearing portion and one or two outer insulating portions are disclosed. Disregarding the insulation cores, heat flows from the outer side wall or walls to the inner portion through outer end walls and, in some embodiments, webs. These outer side walls and webs are heat bridges and are thinner and of significantly lower density than the other walls of the ICMU, thereby providing improved thermal insulation.Also disclosed are ICMUs with a vertical or horizontal recess in one outer insulating portion. Electrical conduit and/or plumbing can be placed into these recesses. In addition, corner ICMUs are disclosed which provide increased structural strength when used to construct a 90.degree. corner between two structural walls because of a special mid-wall in the corner ICMU.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing a thermally insulated building block (54a) comprises foaming a quantity of foamable plastics material in an enclosed space (56) between a building block (54) and a closure means (52), the quantity of material being sufficient to fill the enclosed space (56). The foamable material may be injected into a cavity in the block onto an outer surface of the block (54) or onto the closure means (52) prior to locating the block (54) and closure means (52) relative to each other to form the enclosed space (56) therebetween. The block (54) is transported between upper and lower parallel endless belts (55, 50) during foaming and either belt (55, 50) may provide the closure means (52). If the lower belt (50) provides the closure means (52) the upper belt (55) maintains the block (54) in contact with the closure means (52) during foaming.
