摘要: The present invention includes wood I-beams with fiber reinforcement. In a preferred embodiment, a wood I-beam includes an opposed pair of elongated wood flanges and a substantially continuous web positioned between them. In one embodiment, the web includes multiple metal tubes that extend between the wood flanges and form a zig zag pattern. The ends of the metal tubes are flattened parallel to the plane of the metal web so the ends can fit within either slots in the top surface of the bottom wood flange or slots in the bottom surface of the top wood flange. Metal pins pass through the sides of the wood flanges and the flattened ends of the metal tubes to secure the tubular metal web to the flanges. In other embodiments the web includes oriented strand board (OSB) or plywood. Reinforcements are adhered to the wood flanges so that the metal pins also pass through the reinforcements. The reinforcements preferably include multiple fiber strands held within a resin matrix.

摘要: There is provided a glulam wood beam comprising planks having a width substantially smaller than the width of the beam, assembled into snips. The beam is characterized by the presence of flash in the interior by external surfaces made essentially of duramen. There is further provided a method for making the wood beam of the instant invention wherein the strips are derived from panels and in which the cutting of the panels into strips is programmed to ensure that the subsequent assembly of the strips will result in beams having external surfaces comprised essentially of duramen, thus providing a beam with enhanced mechanical resistance.

摘要: A wooden I beam comprising upper and lower wooden members each having an outer longitudinal flange secured by glue to an elongated web, upper members of the beam being connected at end joints which are staggered relative to end joints between lower members of the beam, the webs of all members being inwardly projecting and connected together by means including non-metallic pegs or bolts fitting into aligned bores in the webs and/or members connecting said webs. The beam can be produced by continually connecting additional upper members and lower members to one end of the beam, each upper member having its web connected to the web of a lower member already incorporated in the beam, and vice versa. Required lengths of the beam are continually sawn off from the other end of the beam as it is produced.

摘要: A reinforcing plate is attached to an end-split wood beam covering at least a portion of the end split. The reinforcing plate inhibits the end split from propagating toward the middle portion of the wood beam. According to one aspect of the invention, the reinforcing plate increases the grade of the wood beam. According to another aspect of the invention, the reinforcing plate prevents or substantially avoids downgrading of the wood beam. The reinforcing plate preferably is steel and has teeth which are angled relative to the grain of the wood. First and second portions of the teeth preferably are oriented oppositely from one another, i.e., 90° relative to one another.

摘要: A converted wood article for use in combination with other converted wood articles to form composite wood products for use in general construction such as in the construction of posts, flooring, walls, and support beams. Converted wood articles preferably include engaging surfaces and in composite wood products formed therefrom include joints between engaging surfaces which are displaced from the outer corners of the composite wood product. Adjacent engaging surfaces forming a joint preferably include correspondingly shaped inter-engaging portions. Further, converted wood articles have the notional cross-sectional shape of four-, five-, or six-sided polygons. The polygons preferably include at least one side having a notional plane therethrough which forms an acute angle with another side. Converted wood articles and composite wood products may be made by a method which includes converted wood articles having a grade or modulus of elasticity rating, and disposing the converted wood articles in the composite wood product according to their specified grade or modulus of elasticity.
