    摘要: A seismic and fire-resistant vertical shaft wall structure is formed by employing a uniquely configured connector above wallboard panels forming the shaft wall at each vertical section of the shaft wall structure. The connectors are formed of strips of sheet metal configured in a manner to seat wallboard panels positioned atop them and receive wallboard panels projecting up from beneath them. The connectors also receive strips of resiliently compressible fire insulation material that fill the gaps between the wallboard panels and the connector at each level of the vertical shaft wall. Interior vertical shafts within buildings, such as elevator shafts, stairwells, and other shafts can be made not only fire resistant but resistant to seismic stresses as well. The system also provides a new method of constructing a superior vertical shaft wall totally from within the structure of the building, without requiring any steps to be performed from within the shaft.

    摘要: A garbage suction system having a number of chutes connected to a common horizontal main transport duct, leading to a collection centre having a suitable air suction means, is provided with specially constructed air inlet valves at selected locations. Each chute is provided with a fork type obstruction at the bottom to loosely suspend the garbage, and the air inlet valves are located in the main transport duct at locations such that at least one chute is between the valve and the suction means. In operation a valve will first sense the suction effect and open the transport duct to the atmosphere, thereby providing a sufficient pressure drop across the garbage loosely suspended in a chute so as to cause the restrained garbage to be sucked away. The valve is provided with an automatic closing means so that the operating sequence may be then repeated.

    摘要: A residential trash disposal apparatus for conducting waste material from a kitchen area within a building and depositing the same in a receptacle exteriorly of the building. The container is provided with a cover member having a tubular sleeve projecting upwardly therefrom and which is telescopically and slidably received over the vertical discharge leg of a chute which is connected by means of a curved bend to a horizontal inlet leg of a chute which passes through the building wall and communicates with the kitchen area. By raising the cover member vertically until the upper rim of the sleeve binds against the curved juncture region between the vertical and horizontal legs, the cover member becomes frictionally locked in its raised position so that sufficient clearance is afforded for withdrawal of the container for emptying and replacement purposes.

    摘要: A system for pneumatically transferring different types of goods through common piping. The system operates automatically to direct one type of goods to one container, for example goods such as trash which is to be held for destruction, and the other type of goods to another container, for example goods such as laundry which is to be held for recycling. The automatic routing of the goods is preferably controlled by separate inlets for the two types of goods, such that the goods inserted into one inlet are automatically routed to one container and goods inserted into the other inlet are automatically routed to the other container. The system provides an intermediate collector for each type of goods adjacent the inlets so that the goods deposited in the respective inlets may be separately accumulated prior to being transferred to the containers. Three systems are illustrated: in the first, the common piping is confined between the dual inlets and the collectors; in the second, the common piping is confined to between the collectors and the containers; and in the third system, the common piping is provided between the inlets and the collectors, and also between the collectors and the containers. In all systems, a common suction is provided to transport the goods from the inlets through the collectors to the containers.
