    摘要: A combination of a casing tube and a closed end unthreaded tubular thread protector that has an inside diameter significantly greater than the outside diameter of the casing tube is described. Further, the thread protector is typically much longer than the threaded portion of the associated casing tube such that a significant amount of axial movement of the protector relative to the casing tube is required to remove it therefrom. The casing protector is most typically comprised of a polymeric material, such as polyethylene or polypropylene, that is soft enough as to not damage or mar the threads on the casing in which it is in contact, but stiff enough in the tubular form of the protector to prevent impact loads from being transferred to the threads there beneath.

    摘要: An apparatus deploys and retrieves a wear bushing in a wellhead during the same trip, such as when using a bottom hole assembly for drilling. Arms in the form of pistons, levers, dogs, etc. can be moved between retracted and extended conditions on the apparatus using actuations from remote communications. When extended, the arms engage inside the wear bushing or inside an adapter disposed in the bushing. When retracted, the arms lie within the exterior of the tool to avoid wear and damage when the drillstring is used for drilling or other operations. During deployment, the bushing supported on the extended arms is seated in the wellhead. The arms are then retracted through remote activation, and the bottom hole assembly is run further downhole. During retrieval, the retracted arms are extended through remote activation and engage in the bushing so the drillstring can lift the bushing from the wellhead.

    摘要: The helical drill bit defines a helical end section of a helical structure formed at its periphery by an auger of an excavation assembly, and it is associated or associable with a support portion of the auger. Such a support portion defines a proximal section of the helical structure, which has an extension substantially centered around a longitudinal axis (X-X). The helical drill bit is adapted to rotate about the longitudinal axis (X-X) together with the support portion so as to drill a hole in the ground. The helical end section extends around an extremity axis (Y-Y; Ψ-Ψ) that is not aligned relative to the longitudinal axis (X-X).

    摘要: An apparatus for supporting a retrievable downhole component within a drill collar includes a sleeve that is positionable about the downhole component and is mounted within the drill collar. The sleeve is adapted to limit the lateral movement of the downhole component. The sleeve includes a series of fins or is lined with an energy absorbing material which protects the component from shock and vibration while at the same time enables the component to be retrieved should the drill string become stuck in the borehole.

    摘要: A stabilizer assembly is at least 12′ long and preferably at least 14′ long and is used to drill a straight bore hole in the earth. A central passage through the assembly closely follows a centerline as may be determined by measuring the wall thickness of the tube at a variety of locations in a single plane. At least three stabilizing sections are integral with the tube and include alternating ribs and flutes. Hardbanding on the ribs is ground down to tolerances with a grinding machine or face plate lathe having centers sufficient to receive the 12′ long stabilizer assembly.

In one embodiment, a flow control mechanism (202) is disclosed for controlling a centralizer (200). The flow control mechanism (202) comprises a body (212) defining a fluid chamber (234); an inlet flow path (292) for fluid flow into the chamber (234); at least one tool flow path (294) for fluid flow between the chamber (234) and at least part of the downhole tool (200); an exhaust flow path (297) for fluid flow from the chamber (234) to a fluid exhaust (240); and control means including a control member (218) mounted for movement within the chamber (234) for controlling flow into and out of the chamber (234) along the inlet flow path (292), the at least one tool flow path (294), and the exhaust flow path (297). The mechanism (202) controls flow to a piston (214) of the centralizer (200) for centralizing the centralizer (200) within, for example, a tubular (211) in the bore hole.
