摘要： An apparatus for driving an upwardly directed shaft in rock, which includes a platform that can be regulated in height. The platform carries a drilling unit having engageable elements enabling fixation of the drilling unit relative the wall of the shaft. The drilling unit and platform can be separated a given distance such as to form an air gap for preventing the transfer of vibrations from the drilling unit to the platform when a drilling machine pertaining to the drilling unit is in operation. The apparatus has bracket elements and a transverse member for limiting the separation distance between the drilling unit and platform. The platform carries a work station for a drilling machine operator.

摘要： A vertical thrust boring machine adapted to be positioned in the horizontal drift of a mine and to cut a tunnel extending upwardly from the drift so as to remove ore or other cuttings therefrom. The machine includes a rotary table for lifting a drill string which in turn supports the cutter head, and is characterized by drill stem sections having a spline connection on their lower ends, and a drive coupling ring associated with the rotary platform having a mating spline connection, so that when changing the length of the drill string the lowermost drill stem section can slide or float vertically relative to the rotary platform at the same time that it is being drivingly rotated.

摘要： An apparatus for forming large diameter shafts between the roof of a mine tunnel and the surface of the earth. A pilot hole is drilled between the surface of the earth and the roof of the mine. A pipe is inserted through a pilot hole to the roof of the mine, and an arm is connected to the lower end of the pipe. The arm has a plurality of jets mounted facing toward the roof and in fluid communication with the inside of the pipe. The upper end of the pipe is connected to a high pressure pump which in turn is connected to a source of fluid, such as water. Apparatus is provided for rotating the upper end of the pipe and for pulling the pipe toward the surface of the earth as the roof is eroded by fluids from the jets impinging on the roof of the mine.

摘要： First and second collar like wrench members having radially outwardly directed peripheral teeth are respectively locatable about a turning wrench flat region of an upper section of drill type and a holding wrench flat region of the next lower section of drill pipe. The lower wrench member is held by a holding wrench having inwardly directing teeth for engaging complementary teeth on the holding wrench member. A drill head includes a breakout wrench having radially inwardly directed teeth which are engageable with the teeth on the upper wrench member. The upper section of pipe is thread connected to a collet internally of the drill head which is free to float axially relative to the breakout wrench on the drill head. The collet is spline connected to the drill head so that it rotates along with the drill head. The axial float permits the drill head to be hydraulically raised and lowered relative to the collet. The drill head is raised to provide room below the breakout wrench for installation of the upper wrench member, and is lowered to bring the teeth of the breakout wrench into engagement with the teeth of the upper wrench member. The collet is supported within the drill head for sideways pivotal movement in all directions, so that bending stresses are not transmitted from the drill pipe to the rotary drive mechanism for the drill head.

摘要： A bit for drilling large-diameter holes. Cutters are arranged in a staged configuration around a central shaft. The innermost cutters are the same large cutters used at other locations on the bit allowing complete interchangeability. The innermost cutters are turned inward. This reduces the uncut bottom next to the pilot hole and provides a stronger bit because the central shaft has not been weakened by milling or other operations.
