Abstract:
A valve system/method suitable for an internal combustion engine (ICE), compressor pump, vacuum pump, and/or reciprocating mechanical device is disclosed. The system/method is optimized for construction of a four-stroke ICE. The rudimentary system incorporates an intake engine block cover (IEC) and exhaust engine block cover (EEC) that enclose an intake rotary valve disc (IVD) and exhaust rotary valve disc (EVD) that control intake/exhaust flow through a respective intake rotary valve port (IVP) and an exhaust rotary valve port (EVP) into and out of a combustion cylinder that provides power to a piston and crankshaft. An intake multi-staged valve (IMV) and exhaust multi-staged valve (EMV) provide intake and exhaust flow control for the IVD/IVP and EVD/EVP. An enhanced system may include a variety of intake/exhaust port seals (IPS/EPS), forced induction/discharge (FIN), centrifugal advance (CAD), and/or cooling channel spool (ICS/ECS).
Abstract:
In an internal combustion engine, first and second rotating members, one for the intake valve and one for the exhaust valve rotate next to the outside of an engine cylinder on opposite sides thereof when driven by a drive gear attached to the end of the engine's crankshaft. Each rotating member may include a ring gear having a valve port or aperture near its perimeter that cyclically aligns with a corresponding valve port formed through the cylinder wall near the top of the cylinder. A method of controlling valve timing comprises the steps of causing the rotating member containing the second valve port to periodically align in synchronism with the first port to control the passage of an air/fuel mixture and exhaust gases through the combustion cycles of the engine.
Abstract:
A valve bridge system comprises a valve bridge configured to extend between at least two engine valves of an internal combustion engine. In one embodiment, a valve bridge guide is operatively connected to the valve bridge and configured to extend between at least two valve springs respectively corresponding to the at least two engine valves, the valve bridge guide defining a surface conforming to a valve spring of the at least two valve springs. In another embodiment, the valve bridge guide may comprise at least a first member maintained in a first fixed position relative to and at a predetermined distance from the valve bridge. In both embodiments, the valve bridge guide is configured to avoid contact with the valve bridge in a controlled state, but to permit contact with valve bridge to resist uncontrolled movement of the valve bridge.
Abstract:
A water control, management and measurement system may include a hands-free water control system (100) that may comprise a chassis (104) securing a motor (117) attached to a motor driven gear (118) in geared attachment to a cold water gear (112) and a hot water gear (111) with the hot water gear and cold water gear sometimes in mechanical attachment to a manual on/off lever (110). Cartridge valves (120) may be disposed within manifolds (130) with the manifolds further retaining modular fittings (135). To facilitate hands-free operation, the water control system may be in communication with a foot pedal system comprising a foot pedal housing (350) the housing containing foot pedal in mechanical communication with a potentiometer (375).
Abstract:
An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder head including a first valve lifter hole, a first camshaft rotatably supported on the cylinder head, a first valve lifter inserted in the first valve lifter hole, a first valve spring that biases the first valve lifter toward the first cam of the first camshaft, and an oil supply passage having a first oil supply port formed on the inner circumferential surface of the first valve lifter hole and a first passage connected to the first oil supply port. An upper end of the first oil supply port is located upward relative to the upper surface of the first valve lifter when the first valve lifter is in the lower position. A lower end of the first oil supply port is located downward relative to the upper surface of the first valve lifter when the first valve lifter is in the upper position.

A valve drive for an internal combustion engine may include a camshaft, at least one cam follower, at least one adjusting device, and at least one control shaft. The camshaft may include at least one cam group. The at least one cam group may include a first cam and a second cam. The at least one cam follower may be drive-connected to the first cam in a first position and to the second cam in a second position. The at least one adjusting device may include a first adjustable engagement element and a second adjustable engagement element. alternately adjustable between a basic position and a switching position. The at least one control shaft may include at least one control element group including a first control element and a second control element adjustable to a switching element position and to a basic element position.
Abstract:
A clip for a switchable roller finger follower that includes a retainer for a hydraulic lash adjuster, and an anti-rotation feature that prevents rotation of a coupling pin is provided. The clip includes a first leg arranged adjacent to a dome-shaped recess on a bottom surface of an outer lever of the switchable roller finger follower that includes a retainer for the hydraulic lash adjuster, and a second leg of the clip includes an anti-rotation bar that extends laterally across a part of the coupling pin and prevents rotation of the coupling pin. A switchable finger follower with the clip is also provided.
Abstract:
A valve cover for an engine and a method is provided. The valve cover may include a cover body, and a sparkplug tube formed integrally with the cover body. In this way, any distortion of the bottom end of the sparkplug tubes due to, for example removal and reinstallation may not provide a leakage path.
Abstract:
A follower mechanism movable along an axis within a bore including an alignment groove. The follower mechanism includes a bucket with a cylindrical inner surface and a cylindrical outer surface, and a yoke positioned at least partially within the bucket, the yoke including a bottom wall and two opposed sidewalls depending upwardly therefrom, each sidewall defining a shaft aperture. A shaft with first and second ends is received in the shaft apertures, and a roller follower is rotatably received on the shaft such that a portion of the roller follower extends axially outwardly beyond the bucket.
Abstract:
Valve assembly and method in which a valve member is connected to an elongated lever arm for controlling communication between two chambers in an internal combustion engine. The valve assembly is disposed at least partially within one of the chambers, and the valve member is moved between open and closed by an actuator connected to the lever arm. In some disclosed embodiments, a pilot valve is opened to equalize pressure on both sides of the valve member prior to moving the valve member toward the open position. In others, where a piston in an expansion cylinder is driven by hot, expanding gases from a separate combustion chamber, the exhaust valve is closed before the piston has completed its exhaust stroke, and pressure is allowed to build up in the expansion cylinder to a level corresponding to the pressure in the combustion chamber before the valve member is moved toward the open position.
