    Abstract: The disclosure relates to a cylinder head for covering a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. The cylinder head comprises at least one material recess for heat isolation, which is formed in a main body of the cylinder head and is arranged between a fluid-guide channel and a cooling channel. The material recess can be produced e.g. directly during the shaping (e.g. casting or pressing) of the cylinder head and/or thereafter. For example, in the event that exhaust gas is guided through the fluid-guide channel, a significantly lower heat input occurs from the hot exhaust gas into the cooling fluid. In addition, the thermal decoupling via the material recess leads to the hot exhaust gas cooling to a lesser degree in the fluid-guide channel.

    Abstract: An air-cooled internal combustion engine includes a cylinder block having a plurality of cylinder bores disposed in parallel to each other, a cylinder head secured to an upper portion of the cylinder block, a crankshaft, two camshafts disposed in a parallel, juxtaposed relationship to each other so as to extend perpendicularly to a forward and backward direction of a vehicle on which the engine is mounted at an upper portion of said cylinder head and positioned on front and rear sides of the engine relative to each other, and a camshaft driving mechanism for transmitting rotational driving force of the crankshaft to the camshafts. A cooling space into which wind can be introduced is formed below that one of the camshafts which is positioned on the front side of the engine. The entire cylinder head is thus cooled efficiently, including portions corresponding to the cylinders disposed at intermediate positions of the engine.

    Abstract: An improved air-cooled aviation engine includes a compact combustion chamber having an intake valve opening, an exhaust valve opening, and a generally elliptical shape. The elliptical shape has a major axis and a minor axis, with the major axis intersecting both the intake valve opening and the exhaust valve opening. In some examples, the major axis is the same length or shorter than a diameter of a cylinder bore of the engine, and the minor axis is smaller than the major axis. Combustion is thus constrained to a smaller area than that of the cylinder bore.

    Abstract: An air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine capable of increasing accuracy in detection of the temperature of the air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine by a temperature sensor and carrying out the warm-up operation after the start-up of the air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine favorably. The air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine includes cooling fins that are provided on the circumferences of a cylinder block and a cylinder head; and a cooling passage that is provided in a combustion chamber upper wall covering a combustion chamber of the cylinder head and is used for cooling the combustion chamber upper wall with lubrication oil. The air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine has a temperature sensor configured to detect the temperature of the air/oil-cooled internal combustion engine by detecting the temperature of oil. The temperature sensor faces a cooling oil outlet portion of the cooling passage.
