Abstract: An iron-based sintered alloy valve seat insert for an internal combustion engine having excellent wear resistance, has a composition wherein Si—Cr—Ni—Fe type Mo-based intermetallic compound particles having a hardness of 700 to 1300 HV in terms of Vickers hardness and a composition containing Si: 1.5% to 3.5%, Cr: 7.0% to 9.0%, Mo: 35.0% to 45.0%, and Ni: 5.0% to 20.0% in terms of mass %, with a remainder being Fe and inevitable impurities are dispersed as hard particles in a base matrix phase that includes hard particles, solid lubricant particles, and contains C: 0.5% to 2.0%, Si: 0.2% to 2.0%, Mn: 5% or less, Cr: 0.5% to 15%, Mo: 3% to 20%, and Ni: 1 to 10% in terms of mass %, and further contains V: 0% to 5%, W: 0% to 10%, S: 0% to 2%, and Cu: 0% to 5%, with a remainder being Fe and inevitable impurities.

Abstract: Provided are a large-size diesel exhaust valve and a manufacturing method thereof, which relate to the technical field of manufacturing of large-size diesel exhaust valves for ships. The large-size diesel exhaust valve includes an exhaust valve disc portion made of a 3J40 alloy, and the large-size diesel exhaust valve has the following microstructure: there are ultra-fine grains with a grain size of 10 grade or more, α-Cr lamellar phases are evenly distributed at grain boundaries of the ultra-fine grains, nickel-lean Cr—Al—Ce particle phases are evenly distributed in a matrix, a single lamella of the α-Cr lamellar phases has a thickness of less than 140 nm, and the nickel-lean Cr—Al—Ce particle phases have a diameter of less than 10 μm. The present application solves the technical problem of how to improve the comprehensive mechanical properties and the vibration-damping performance of a large-size diesel exhaust valve simultaneously.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes an engine block, a piston, a cylinder head, and a valve train. The engine block includes a cylinder block including a cylinder bore and a crankcase defining a crankcase chamber with a crankshaft positioned within the crankcase chamber. The piston is coupled to the crankshaft and configured to reciprocate within the cylinder bore. The cylinder head is coupled to the cylinder block. The valve train includes a camshaft, a first and second pushrod, a first and second rocker arm, an exhaust valve housed, and an intake valve. The first rocker arm, the second rocker arm, the exhaust valve, and the intake valve each include at least a layer of a low friction material. The first and second pushrod each pass through a pushrod seal to prevent fluid from reaching the rocker chamber to fluidly isolate the rocker chamber from the crankcase chamber.

Abstract: A method of casting valve seat inserts comprises pouring molten metal into a gating system of a mold plate stack wherein mold plates are located between top and bottom molds wherein the gating system includes a casting header, down-sprue, horizontal sprue, up-sprues, runners, and gates in fluid communication with mold cavities configured to form the valve seat inserts. The method includes filling the mold cavities with the molten metal, and controlling solidification of the molten metal in the mold cavities by means of an outer thermal barrier which retards heat transfer in mold plate material between the mold cavities and an outer periphery of the mold plate stack. An inner thermal barrier can be sued to further control solidification of the molten metal. Valve seat inserts produced using the thermal jacket molds can exhibit an improved microhardness distribution which provides improved machining and higher yield.

Abstract: The valve seat includes an iron-based sintered alloy subjected to oxidation treatment, which is obtained by subjecting an iron-based sintered alloy including: 4 mass % to 15 mass % of Co particles; and hard particles each containing at least one compound of an intermetallic compound, a carbide, a silicide, a nitride, or a boride that has one or more kinds of elements selected from group 4a to 6a elements in a periodic table, and having a hardness of from 600 HV to 1,600 HV to oxidation treatment, and which has an oxide mainly including triiron tetraoxide (Fe3O4) and cobalt oxide (CoO) formed on a surface and in an interior of the iron-based sintered alloy. The iron-based sintered alloy subjected to oxidation treatment has an area ratio of the oxide of from 5% to 25% in a cross section thereof in a state prior to installation on the cylinder head.
