    摘要: A powertrain assembly having an improved engine configuration includes an engine and a transmission incorporated in a crankcase of the engine. The engine also comprises an oil pump and a water pump. The transmission is a cartridge-type shift drum transmission, which can be attached to or detached from a transmission attachment face which is a side face of the crankcase. The oil pump and the transmission attachment face are arranged in substantially non-overlapping relation in the side view of the engine. The water pump shaft is substantially coaxial with the oil pump shaft, and the water pump is positioned below a drive sprocket on the transmission countershaft so as to be overlapping while eliminating interference between them, allowing a close arrangement of components.

    摘要: To increase the surface area of an oil cooler and improve the cooling efficiency of an engine for a motorcycle, dual radiators are mounted on the body frame on both right and left sides of a water-cooled engine. Both radiators are inclined relative to a center line of the motorcycle with the larger space between the top ends thereof than the space between the bottom ends thereof on both sides of the engine. Also, the forward portions of the radiators project forwardly from the front end of the engine. An air-cooled oil cooler is provided at the upper space between both radiators in front of the engine and extends laterally across the width of the engine. Furthermore, a cooling system incorporates the radiator and oil cooler configuration.

    摘要: A flowable lubricant is metered in pulses to a chain drive under the control of the computer programmed to respond to measurement of the chain drive speed so that, when the speed of the chain drive is below a threshold level above which centrifugal force can cause loss of lubricant, the lubricant can flow in pulses to the chain drive. When, however, the speed of the chain drive rises to the threshold value, the pulse dispenser is blocked and the supply of lubricant pulses is terminated. The lubricant pulses which are not supplied during the interval are stored. When pulse supply of lubrication is restored, the stored lubricant pulses are supplied.

    摘要: A lubrication fitting having a unique fluid flow control device mounted in an opening to prevent flow of fluid therethrough at all times except when specifically actuated to permit fluid flow therethrough. Upon actuation, the fluid flow control device automatically permits flow of lubricant into a reservoir, while at the same time automatically prevents flow of fluid out of a reservoir unless additionally actuated specifically for the purpose of withdrawing fluid from the reservoir. The fitting has a closure plug that has external threads that threadably engage the internal threads in a recess in the fitting. The recess in the fitting communicates with a passage in the fitting to form a continuous passage through the fitting for a lubricant being forced into a reservoir. The fluid flow control device is constructed so as to provide an essentially leak-free junction with the dispensing source of lubricant and may include a magnet to attract and remove ferrous metal particles from the lubricant.
