    摘要: Methods and apparatus for weighing an article, such as a mail piece, while the article is moving at high speed. An article (900) is received from an intake transport (1200), and gripped in a weighing station (1310), in between a capstan roller and a pinch roller (1316), which are synchronized to minimize slipping. A first precision servo system (1252, 1250) alters the speed of the article, and in the process acquires torque data for storage and analysis (1212, 1282). A second precision servo system (1260,1330) applies a constant force, via a tension arm (1320), urging the pinch roller (1316) against the capstan roller, independently of the thickness of the mail piece. Active electronic damping (1900) reduces oscillation when an inconsistency in thickness of the article is encountered during weighing. The damping force is subtracted from the capstan motor torque data for improved accuracy (FIG. 20B).

    摘要: A scale for fast determination of weights including a platform and a load cell transducer. Output of the transducer is converted to a digital signal, processed by a low pass digital filter, and weights computed as a function of the sequence of digital signals by means of an algorithm which compares a first estimate of the weight to the break points of a postal rate chart and uses the first estimate if it is not within a predetermined distance of a break point, and otherwise determines a second, more accurate estimate. The platform and transducers are combined to form a structure which does not have any significant resources below the cut-off frequency of the filter.

    摘要: A balance relatively insensitive to vibration of its support has a weighing pan mounted on a pan carrier which is one of the two normally vertical members of a parallelogram linkage, the other members being the stationary balance casing and two links hingedly interposed between the pan carrier and the casing. A solenoid assembly opposes displacement of the pan carrier under the weight of a load on the pan. The pan carrier is hingedly coupled to one arm of a lever fulcrumed on the balance casing whose other arm carries a counterweight in such a manner that inertial forces acting on the pan carrier and counterweight respectively during vibratory motion of the casing oppose each other.

    摘要: Weighing apparatus, including a support frame, a balance beam support member pivotally mounted on the support frame and a drum member rotatably mounted on the balance beam support member. The balance beam support has a counterweight mounted on one end thereof which tends to cause it to pivot in one direction. The drum member has a plurality of equally angularly spaced weighing bins formed around the periphery thereof. Each of the bins is adapted to receive a quantity of material to be weighed when positioned in an upwardly opening material receiving position. The axis of rotation of the drum member is located on the opposite side of the pivot point of the balance beam support member from the counterweight so that the weight of the drum and the contents of one of the weighing bins will tend to pivot the balance beam support member in a direction opposite to that caused by the counterweight. A releasable stop means is provided to release the drum and allow it to rotate about its axis of rotation due to the weight of the material in one of the weighing bins when the balance beam support member is pivoted against the moment force applied to it by the counterweight. The stop means is further adapted to stop the rotation of the drum when the next adjacent weighing bin moves up to its material receiving position. Each rotational movement of the drum is of sufficient degree to cause the quantity of weighed material in the bin to be discharged therefrom by the force of gravity. The weighing apparatus also includes a braking mechanism for the drum to resist the rotation of the drum and therefore prevent damage to the parts.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method weigh an object, in particular a flat item of mail, during transport. A conveying device having an endless conveying belt and a counterpart conveying element is able to temporarily grip an object in a clamping region and to transport it in a transporting direction. Weighing scales are able to weigh the object while the object is gripped in a clamping region. The damping element is configured to damp vibrations of an object gripped in the clamping region. The damping element has a surface which is curved in the transporting direction. The endless conveying belt is guided in such a way around the curved surface that the endless conveying belt rests areally against the curved surface in a damping region and the endless conveying belt and the counterpart conveying element are configured to guide the object gripped in the clamping region past the curved surface.

The arrangement is such that the isolator can operate in a range in which an incremental increase in deflection causing compression of springs is such as to result in an incremental decrease in the restoring force of springs resolved along the deflection axis.
