Abstract: Described herein are methods and devices for improved location of any and all underwater structures or equipment installed underwater. In particular, systems are disclosed that combine optical and acoustic metrology for locating objects in underwater environments. The systems allow for relative positions of objects to be determined with great accuracy using optical techniques, and support enhanced location of devices that utilize acoustic location techniques. In addition, location information can be provided by the system even in conditions that make optical metrology techniques impossible or impractical.

Abstract: A system may include a fixed communications device and a mobile communications device each configured to wirelessly communicate at a first frequency and also at a second frequency higher than the first frequency. The fixed communications device and the mobile communications device may cooperate to establish a wireless link via the second frequency, exchange a location signal via the first frequency responsive to establishing the wireless link, communicate via the wireless link using the second frequency and determine respective transmit and receive delays associated with transmission and reception of the location signal via the first frequency, and determine a distance between the fixed communications device and the mobile communications device based upon a time of arrival of the location signal, the transmit and receive delays, and a signal speed associated with the second frequency.

Abstract: The systems and methods may transmit a plurality of locationing pulse requests from a mobile device in a vehicle to an audio system of the vehicle during a period of operation of the vehicle. The audio system may have an array of speakers disposed inside the vehicle, and the locationing pulse requests may include a request to emit a locationing pulse from the array of speakers. The systems and methods may further receive the locationing pulse at a microphone of the mobile device; and determine, based upon receiving the locationing pulse, that the vehicle was in service of a TNC company, or otherwise operating as a TNC vehicle, during the period of operation based upon passengers entering and leaving the vehicle during the period of operation. Insurance covering the operation of the vehicle for TNC use may be verified, and/or alternatively, offered to facilitate insuring TNC vehicle operation.

Abstract: A system and method are provided. The system includes a data reader having a processor for performing a signal frequency analysis, an ultrasound transmitter for transmitting ultrasound signals, and an ultrasound receiver for receiving reflected ultrasound signals. The system further includes a movable reflector for receiving the ultrasound signals and reflecting the ultrasounds signals back to the ultrasound receiver (a) as the reflected ultrasound signals without modulation when the movable reflector is stationary and (b) as the reflected ultrasound signals with modulation when the movable reflector is mobile. The system also includes a chip for storing a specification of motion states for the movable reflector.

Abstract: The invention describes a novel system for measuring short distances using the propagation time of radio signals between at least one interrogation unit and a transponder, whereby a disturbance of the transponder's response signal by its own request signal is excluded by means of a highly precise delay of the request in the transponder. The delay is realized with quartz accuracy and the necessary precision in that it takes place in a digital or analog register chain, whose register clock is kept phase synchronous with the interrogation signal, that a variable delay of the interrogation signal takes place in the interrogation unit and that this delay is adjusted by one register clock period at the synchronous time preferably by means of a binary search by means of the recognizable jump of the total running time-round trip.
