    摘要: A high-density recording optical head for increasing recording density in an optical head for recording and reproducing information optically. The disclosed optical head is provided with an iris for transmitting or passing the central portion of the reflected light when the light reflected from a medium is transmitted by an ordinary objective lens. Another iris is also provided for transmitting or reflecting the periphery of the reflected light and, in this case, an improved objective lens structure including two inner and outer elements is provided. Therefore, in the disclosed optical head, only light reflected from the actual recording region is detected as a reproduction signal. According to the disclosed optical head, high-density recording in identical media becomes possible.

The reflected beams of light from the disc DSC caused by the radiation with the light spots Pc, Psa, Psb are detected to generate push-pull signals each corresponding to the light spots Pc, Psa, Psb, respectively, in accordance with each of the detected signals.     摘要: A near-field light generating method for irradiating light from a light source to a metal film having a fine opening that has a size of not more than a wavelength of the light emitted from the light source, and forming a fine light spot adjacent to the fine opening on a light outgoing side of the fine opening. The method includes providing the metal film with a rectangular fine opening whose length to width ratio is between 1.1 times and 2 times that of a standard square opening, obtained by increasing the length of the standard square opening, and irradiating the metal film with light from the light source to form the fine light spot, which has a length and a width that are substantially equal to those of the standard square opening, and where the fine light spot has a light intensity, which is not less than two times that of the standard square opening. This method is applicable in a corresponding near-field optical head, which can be included either in an optical microscope to observe a sample surface or in an apparatus for recording and reproducing with respect to a recording medium.

    摘要: A rotatable record carrier upon which reproducible information is recorded in the form of spaced apart pits in substantially concentric circular tracks on a surface of the carrier. The pits may represent frequency-modulated information signals, and the lengths of the pits are independent of the frequency of the information signals. A method and apparatus for reproducing information from this record carrier is disclosed, wherein a light beam is used to scan the tracks of the record medium, and the size of the scanning light beam is changed as a function of the radius of the track which then is being scanned so as to increase the size of the beam when a track of larger radius is scanned. This control over the size of the scanning beam establishes a constant relationship between the size of the beam and the length of the pits despite changes in the pit length due to the different radii of the tracks.

    摘要: A recording and playback apparatus for holographically recording and reproducing audio signals. In recording, the modulating element is either a vibrating mirror or an electro-optical cell. During playback, a wedged-shaped slot is positioned between the record medium and a photoelectric cell. The position of the reproduced light beam on the wedged-shaped slot is a function of the degree of modulation; thus the slot transmits an amount of light which is proportional to the recorded audio signal.

    摘要: Video information is stored optically along a helical track on a rotating disc over which an optical pick-up moves radially in correspondence with progressive displacement of a monitored portion of the track. To maintain constant alignment between the pick-up and the track regardless of deviations in the intended radial progression of either, a control signal is applied to an electromechanical transducer in order to vary the position of the pick-up transversely relative to the monitored track portion. Spaced parallel from the disc is a mask to span a plurality of track segments. All of the slits are oriented generally along those segments, and the number of slits is slightly different from the number of the segments in the width of the span. A generally collimated beam of light is projected through the slits and the portion of the disc which carries the segment. A balanced photodetector system responds to a moire'' pattern in the light which is projected through both the slits and the disc portion in order to develop a pair of signals which represent relative departure of the pick-up laterally from the monitored track length. A differential amplifier combines these signals into a control signal which is applied to the transducer to effect a compensatory variation in the position of the pick-up.
