IF ONLY ALPHA FERRIC OXIDE IS FORMED ON SAID SURFACE THE SUPPORT MEMBER MAY BE SUBJECTED TO A REDUCING ATMOSPHERE AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES TO CHANGE THE COATING TO MAGNETITE. IT IS PREFERABLE TO THEREAFTER SUBJECT SAID SUPPORT MEMBER TO AN OXIDIZING ATOSPHERE AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES TO CHANGE SAID COATING TO GAMMA FERRIC OXIDE.

摘要: A method of producing a magnetic recording material which comprises preparing an unstretched film of a crystalline polymer, stretching it and coating a magnetic layer on one surface of the film, wherein the film is crystallized so that the degree of crystallization of one surface of the film becomes at least 5% higher than that of the other surface, then the film is stretched in at least one direction, and then a magnetic layer is coated on said other surface. In an alternate embodiment a crystalline polymer is stretched in one direction, subjected to a differential crystallization treatment and stretched in a direction at right angles to the first stretch before application of the magnetic coating.

摘要: The disclosure describes a structure useful for isolated magnetic domain devices. The structure is a composite of samarium-rich orthoferrite and samarium-poor orthoferrite one of which is epitaxially deposited on the other. The result is that the epitaxial layer is magnetically isolated from the substrate since in these materials the crystallographic direction of net magnetic moment is 90* apart.

摘要: Transparent colored materials having low bulk densities and high magnetic permeabilities are obtained by encasing silicaceous particles in a sheath of magnetic or magnetically-attractable metal, which are then heat-treated. The magnetic composite particles are prepared by the solution phase thermal decomposition of transition metal carbonyls in the presence of the silicaceous particles with a suitable suspending medium. Air and moisture are excluded from the reaction vessel and the contents are heated with agitation so that the carbonyl boils and the mixture is refluxed until the temperature rises to that of the suspending medium whereupon coating of the silicaceous particles with elemental metal is complete. The mixture is cooled, the beads washed, air-dried, and recovered. The metal coated particles are then heated in an ambient atmosphere for between about 2 to about 120 minutes at a temperature of from between about 50.degree. C. and 700.degree. C. Particles having transparency, color, and magnetism in the same body are obtained.

摘要: An improved magnetic recording medium comprising a flexible support consisting of at least about 70 mol % of p-oriented aromatic polycarbonamide units. The polycarbonamide may include substituent groups on the aromatic nuclei. The support has a density of more than about 1.41 g/cm.sup.3 at 25.degree. C and 0% relative humidity, and a tensile modulus higher than about 800 kg/mm.sup.2 in at least one direction, combined with a thin layer of magnetically susceptible material deposited electrically or dispersed in a nonmagnetic binder. The magnetic recording medium in this invention shows excellent running performance and has superior dimensional stability both thermally and hygroscopically.
