    摘要: The present invention is directed to a metal hydrides lamp and a fill for such a lamp. The lamp chamber includes a fill of at least one metal, a buffer gas, and hydrogen and/or deuterium. When energy is provided to the fill, metal combines with the hydrogen and/or deuterium to form a molecule at an excited energy level which emits visible light when the molecule moves to a ground state energy level. The lamp may be an electrode lamp, an electrodeless lamp, a microwave lamp, or any other power source capable of imparting energy into a fill contained within a lamp chamber.

    摘要: An indirectly heated cathode incorporated in a gas discharge tube with a discharge current of 0.2 to 0.4 A has a cathode surface area in a range of 10 to 30 mm.sup.2. A cathode cylinder is made of molybdenum, nickel or alloy thereof. A heater coated with alumina for insulation is inserted into the cylinder in such a manner that the distance between the heater and cylinder is 0.1 mm or less, and coil gaps of the heater are set to 0.15 mm or less. Alternatively, the space between the heater and cylinder is filled with alumina. As a result, the ratio of a heat quantity by forced heating to a heat quantity for starting discharge is made 0.3 or less.

    摘要: An electric arc discharge lamp comprises a cathode (2), an apertured diaphragm (4) and a cup shaped apertured anode (6). The anode (6) is provided with a flared extension (7) and is mounted on leads passing through ceramic tubes (14) (FIG. 4). The cathode (2) is enclosed in a cup shaped member comprising a cylindrical tube (5) having one end closed by the diaphragm (4). The electrodes are enclosed in a sealed envelope (8) (FIG. 4) which is filled with deuterium. A synthetic quartz window (81) is provided in one end of the envelope to enable ultra-violet radiation from the arc struck between the cathode and anode to pass through.The cathode (2), the aperture (42) in the diaphragm (4) and the aperture (62) in the anode (6) are aligned and lie on the axis of symmetry of the envelope (8). The anode is an efficient heat radiator because of its large surface area and thus works at a lower than normal temperature allowing the use of stainless steel rather than the usual refractory metals.

    摘要: In a light source, a heat sink is in contact with a side-on type discharge tube 110. The heat sink is in contact with a peripheral region 110ws around an exit window 101ww of the discharge tube 110. The heat sink consists of a spring member 101sp kept in direct contact with the peripheral region 101ws, and a radiating block 101bl which connects the spring member 101sp to a radiator box 101bx. Since materials made by sputtering or the like of electrodes in the discharge tube 110 mostly attach to the peripheral region 101ws of side wall 101w, it is feasible to decrease the amount of materials attaching to the exit window 101ww and, in turn, lengthen the lifetime of the discharge tube. Another light source may be constructed in structure in which the heat sink is in contact with a head-on type discharge tube or in structure in which light is outputted from a projecting portion.

    摘要: To increase the radiation output from a discharge lamp having a diaphragm arrangement located between an anode (3) and a heatable cathode (4), the diaphragm arrangement constricts the radiation discharge path along an axis (5, 105) extending through the diaphragm opening and towards the anode (3, 103), and has a dimension along the length of said axis of at least 0.3 mm. The diaphragm arrangement can be formed by a plurality, preferably about 3 diaphragm elements (6, 7, 8), each having diaphragm openings of from between 0.1 to 2 mm, made of sheet metal of a thickness of at least 0.03 mm, and preferably of between 0.1 to 1 mm, and in which the spacing of the diaphragm openings (10, 11, 12) with respect to each other is in the range of about 0.1 to 5 mm, preferably about 0.3 mm; alternatively, the diaphragm arrangement may include one massive diaphragm having an axial thickness of between 1 and 50 mm, preferably between about 1 and 5 mm, and spaced from the anode by between about 0.5 and 2 mm, with a diaphragm diameter (113) between about 0.1 and 2 mm.

    摘要: An atomic spectral lamp of the type comprising a predominantly glass envelope in which are disposed spaced electrodes for producing an electrical discharge on application of a suitable potential difference thereto and a substance which, on being heated will yield a vapor of an element capable of emitting the resonance line or lines which characterize the lamp. In normal operation of the lamp, there exists between the anode and the cathode a temperature gradient effective to ensure that the vapor pressure of the elemental vapor adjacent the cathode is small relative to the vapor pressure of the elemental vapor in the vicinity of said substance. In another aspect, heating means is provided for heating the substance independently of the discharge to yield the elemental vapor within the envelope.
