    摘要: A worldwide logistics network includes a processing center for receiving customer orders for crystal oscillators over communications links, processing the orders, and generating work orders that are selectively disseminated over communications links to programming centers at strategic locations around the world. Each of the programming centers carries an inventory of generic programmable crystal oscillators. Upon receipt of a work order, a programming center withdraws quantity of programmable crystal oscillators from inventory sufficient to fill the customer order, and, using automated parts handling equipment, the oscillators are successively directed to an interface position with a computer. There, the unique crystal frequency of each oscillator is read and each oscillator is uniquely programmed on the basis of its crystal frequency to generate an output frequency meeting customer specification. Upon completion of this final manufacturing steps the programmed crystal oscillators are shipped to the customers directly from the programming centers.

    摘要: A phase locked loop (PLL) circuit adjusts a voltage controlled differential oscillator to generate an output frequency signal that is a selected multiple of an input reference signal. An oscillator control circuit increases and decreases the output frequency signal. A frequency detector detects a phase shift between the reference signal and the PLL output signal and produces an error signal. In response to the error signal, a fast lock circuit detects when the output frequency signal passes the selected multiple of the reference signal.

    摘要: A system and method for controlling a phase-locked loop detects a deadlock condition and then adjusts an output frequency of an oscillator until the deadlock condition is corrected. The deadlock condition may be detected based on a value of a charge pump signal which controls the oscillator frequency. In accordance with one embodiment, deadlock is detected if the value of the charge pump signal approaches one of two supply rail voltages. The deadlock condition is overcome by manipulating current signals output from the charge pump. This is accomplished by turning off the current from one charge-pump current source and increasing current from a second-charge pump current source. The increased current may be provided by a third current source located within or external to the charge pump. By adding current from the third current source, the output frequency of the phase-locked loop will be driven lower until a value is reached which effectively pulls the PLL out of the deadlock condition.

    摘要: A resonant oscillator circuit includes an active device and a resonator that causes the active device to oscillate at a resonant frequency of the resonator. The active device includes one or more transistors that are DC biased using one or more resistors. The bias resistors generate thermal noise that is proportional to the resistance value. An external inductor circuit is connected across the output terminals of the active device and in parallel with the resonator. The external inductor circuit shorts-out at least some of the thermal noise that is generated by the bias resistors, and thereby reduces the overall phase noise of the resonant oscillator.

In one embodiment, the fine tuning array is adjusted to mid-range before adjusting the coarse tuning array. A DCXO apparatus includes at least one integrated circuit segmented switched capacitor network providing a capacitance that is a nonmonotonic function of a composite input code. The segmented switched capacitor network includes parallel coupled binary weighted and thermometer coded switched capacitor networks for coarse and fine tuning, respectively.
