摘要: A pipe body, wherein the pipe body (10) has a welded portion (11) at both ends of the pipe body, aligned in a widthwise direction of the pipe body (10). The thickness of the welded portion (11) decreases gradually from the inside to the outside of the pipe, and an outer end of the welded portion (11) is located at a center portion of the pipe body (10) in a thickness direction. The configuration of the welding structure enhances the strength of the welded portion of the pipe, so that the pipe will not crack easily when it is reworked by flaring or bending, thus having high reworkability. In addition, a pipe (100) made of the pipe body (10) and a method of making the pipe (100) are disclosed.

摘要: An apparatus for solder joining metal tapes to form laminated metal tapes comprises an alignment box having a base and a sidewall means extending therefrom to define a tapered inner channel extending through the box. The tapered channel having an entrance end and narrowing to an exit end. At least one tapered wall extending from the base and within the inner channel to define subchannels that are spaced at the entrance end and converge into the inner channel before the exit end. The sidewall means and tapered wall extending from the base to respective wall tops, and a cover extending over the channel and subchannels is mounted on the wall tops. The base, sidewalls, inner wall, and cover being configured to form the channel and subchannels to have a first preselected distance between the base and cover that is greater than the width of the tapes. A second preselected distance between oppositely facing walls bordering the subchannels that is greater than the thickness of the tapes, and a third preselected distance between oppositely facing walls at the exit end that is greater than the thickness of the laminated tapes. A solder duct means mounted on the box for directing molten solder into the inner channel to flow from the exit end to the entrance end. The solder duct means having a slot extending therethrough and aligned with the exit end. A seal means mounted on the solder duct means adjacent the slot for minimizing solder escaping from the slot while solder coated tapes pass therefrom, and a wiper means mounted on the solder duct means and positioned from the seal means removes excess solder from tapes passing through the seal means.

摘要: A device for applying a protective coating to the weld or solder seam of a can body has an application roller (2) serving to apply a coating material inside a region covering the seam at the inside (15) of the can body. The roller periphery has a cross-sectional profile (5) comprising at least one depression (10) in a middle region (9) of a middle portion (6) having a region width of less than 60% of the width of the middle portion (6). The profile (5) further comprises at least one salient point and/or at least two points of inflection in this middle region (9). The device renders it possible to achieve optimum layer thicknesses of the coating over the seam, which are neither too little for the stresses occurring during the long-term storage of corrosive liquids nor too great for the tearing strength stressing of the coating which occurs during the flanging over of the edges of the can body. As a result of the form of the roller, an optimum profile of the coating layer applied results, with the greatest layer thickness immediately above the seam.

摘要: A method and apparatus are disclosed for fabricating an optical fiber communication cable having a metal containment tube and at least one optical fiber in static compression therein. The containment tube is preferably formed by applying a tensile load to a strip of metal and drawing the strip of metal through at least one forming die. Each fiber is inserted into the forming tube without the application of any significant tension. As a result, each fiber is in a substantially no-load condition at the same time that the strip is undergoing maximum plastic extension and said tube is undergoing elastic tension from the applied tensile load. Upon release of the tensile load, the tube will shrink and each fiber is placed into static compression.

摘要: An apparatus and method for applying a uniform coating of liquid solder to a flat tube particularly at and adjacent to the side edges of the tube. The apparatus has spaced heated platens comprising shaping die members located opposite to each other and including tube embracing recesses forming a slot through which the liquid solder coated tube is passed. The disclosure also includes spacing means for spacing these die members apart a distance equal to the width of the coated tubes and yieldable means such as springs urging the spaced heated platens toward each other to bear against the side edges of the tube together with means for drawing the coated tube between the heated platens and means for heating the platens in the vicinity of the tube to a temperature above the melting point of the solder as well as passages permitting draining of excess solder from the tube during its passage between the heated platens.

摘要: A drive chain cooperative with a guide for successively advancing can bodies (or the like) coaxially is pivotally fitted with longitudinally spaced driving lugs adapted to grip the respective trailing ends of the bodies and thus prevent their unwanted shifting about their longitudinal axes. Each lug, in addition to its projection for gripping the trailing end, has a flat portion, slidably engageable with the guide to insure non-deviation of side seam body joints from alignment with a solder applicator. A sprocket beyond the guide and the applicator, and with which the chain is in mesh, has circumferentially spaced protrusions which pivotally actuate the lugs to release the can bodies for further processing.

摘要: Pipes are made from helically wrapped strips, having one edge uniformly bevelled, the other one roof shaped with h-f heating of the two edges, where one roof side faces the uniform bevel surface. This joint is pressure welded, and the resulting groove is filled by subsequent fusion welding without requiring removal of any burr from the groove.
