Abstract: An object of the present invention is to correct the deviation of a sheet in the width direction occurring on a conveyance path from a sheet correction mechanism (4) to a discharge tray. A sheet shift portion (41, 43, 44) moves a sheet in the width direction. A conveying position detecting portion (45, 46, 47) detects the position of the sheet in the width direction. A discharge position detecting portion (54, 8a) detects a discharge position of the sheet, in the width direction, discharged onto a discharge tray (33) in a sheet discharge portion (31). A control portion (8b) derives an amount of deviation between the discharge position and a discharge reference position based on a detection result of the discharge position detecting portion (54, 8a). Furthermore, the control portion (8b) corrects a conveying position of the sheet in a sheet conveying portion according to the amount of deviation.

The second-side roller includes a shaft member integrally formed to have a stepped shape.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing documents are provided. The apparatus includes a feeder for receiving a packet of a plurality of documents and separating the documents to serially feed the documents to a scanner. A drop feeder conveys the document packets to the feeder. A sensor provides information related to the thickness of the document packets and the drop feeder is controlled in response to the information related to the thickness of a packet in the feeder. The method includes the control of the drop feeder in response to information related to the thickness of a document packet at the feeder.

Abstract: Folder systems and related methods are provided for accurately and efficiently folding a paper carrier that has a card attached without bending or dislodging the card from the carrier. A movable fold chute receives a portion of the carrier with the card attached and allows the carrier to fold while protecting the card portion of the carrier. The fold chute moves between different positions which allow the carrier to enter and exit through folding rollers along a generally straight paper path without forcing the cards around small radii, thereby preventing damage to the cards or causing them to separate from the carrier sheet.
