摘要:
Systems and methods for selectively producing steam from solar collectors and heaters, for processes including enhanced oil recovery, are disclosed herein. A system in accordance with a particular embodiment includes a water source, a solar collector that includes a collector inlet, a collector outlet, and a plurality of solar concentrators positioned to heat water passing from the collector inlet to the collector outlet, a fuel-fired heater, a steam outlet connected to an oil field injection well, and a water flow network coupled among the water source, the solar collector, the heater, and the steam outlet. The system can further include a controller operatively coupled to the water flow network and programmed with instructions that, when executed, direct at least one portion of the flow through the solar collector and the fuel-fired heater in a first sequence, and direct the at least one portion or a different portion of the flow through the solar collector and the fuel-fired heater in a second sequence different than the first sequence.

Techniques for providing power to a data center includes transferring heat from a computer data center to warm a fluid stored within an energy regeneration system; circulating the warmed fluid to a flow of compressed gas stored within the energy regeneration system during a discharging process that expands the compressed gas; generating energy with the energy generation system from the discharging process; and providing at least a portion of the generated energy to the computer data center as electrical power.

A hybrid engine that uses a primary internal combustion engine portion and a secondary external combustion engine portion. In a preferred arrangement, the secondary external combustion engine portion operates as a reciprocating steam engine. The heated exhaust gases of the internal combustion engine portion are used to generate steam, and the steam is used to power the steam engine portion adding the steam engine's power output to that of the internal combustion engine. The thermal efficiency of the hybrid engine may be higher than the thermal efficiency of an internal combustion engine without use of the exhaust gas heat. The hybrid engine uses a configuration in which steam is generated directly in the steam engine and a mechanical link between the internal combustion engine portion and the steam engine portion with the result that the hybrid engine is simple and inexpensive to construct and maintain.
摘要:
A method and apparatus for converting heat energy to mechanical energy with greater efficiency. According to the method, heat energy is applied to a working fluid in a reservoir sufficient to convert the working fluid to a vapor and the working fluid is passed in vapor form to means such as a generator for converting the energy therein to mechanical work. The working fluid is then recycled to the reservoir. In order to increase the efficiency of this process, a gas having a molecular weight no greater than the approximate molecular weight of the working fluid is added to the working fluid in the reservoir and separated from the working fluid downstream from the reservoir.

In a gas/steam power station plant (combined plant) the gas turbine group (1, 2, 3), the steam circuit (8, 9) and the waste heat boiler (4), individually of in combination with one another, are connected, directly or indirectly, operationally to a steam accumulator (12). This operational connection is one wherein a proportion of steam from the constantly charged-up steam accumulator (12) is available for an autonomous start-up of at least one steam turbine (8, 9), coupled to the gas turbine group, of the steam circuit, whereby the start capability of the combined plant can be increased.

An apparatus for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy by a cycle, having a heat exchanger, a reservoir for an operating medium, a feed line, a turbine, and a return line having at least one recovery device is described. In order to also be able to utilize waste heat for the generation of electrical energy, the turbine is embodied as a disc rotor turbine. A method for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy in a cycle is also described, in which thermal energy is supplied to an operating medium in a reservoir, the operating medium evaporates and/or a pressure in the operating medium is increased, whereupon the operating medium releases energy in a turbine, after which the operating medium is returned to the reservoir.

An energy accumulator for storing electrical energy in the form of heat energy comprising an electric heater for converting electrical energy into heat energy, a heat accumulator for storing the heat energy of the electric heater, and a heat exchanger for emitting heat energy from the heat accumulator. The heat accumulator comprises, at least, a plurality of metal rods arranged upright and serving to store heat energy from the electric heater; a base; and multiple supporting units, wherein each supporting unit supports one of the metal rods and is connected with the base. Furthermore described is a corresponding method for operating an energy accumulator of this type.
