    摘要: A plasma display panel has a front substrate (3) and a back substrate (2) arranged opposed to each other through a discharge space (4). On the back substrate, a fluorescent layer (5) is formed. On the front substrate, display electrodes are formed extending in a horizontal direction, a discharge cell area is demarcated corresponding to the display electrodes, and a plurality of shielding films (13) extending in the horizontal direction are moreover formed at each position which is among the display electrodes and within the discharge cell area. When the distance between the shielding films and the fluorescent layer is set to be D, the width L of a shielding film and the distance S between the shielding films satisfy 0.58≦L≦D and D≦S≦1.73D. This reduces the reflectance ratio of outdoor daylight to improve lighted room contrast.

    摘要: A discharge chamber wherein the allowability for positional displacement of electrodes is increased to facilitate manufacture of the discharge chamber and a method of manufacturing the discharge chamber are disclosed. The discharge chamber has a flat panel structure wherein a first substrate and a second substrate are adhered to each other with a predetermined gap left therebetween. Striped anodes and cathodes are arranged alternately on the first substrate. Barrier ribs are interposed between the two substrates and arranged in a stripe pattern to partition the gap to form discharge channels. The anodes are arranged just below the barrier ribs and have a width dimension smaller than the width dimension of the barrier ribs. Meanwhile, each of the cathodes is arranged intermediately between each adjacent ones of the cathodes. Even if the barrier ribs suffer from relative positional displacement, the exposed surface area of the cathodes by which plasma discharge is dominated is kept fixed.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display (LCD) using a plasma addressing method includes a sequentially arranged face plate, intermediary plate, and rear plate separated from each other by predetermined distances; a liquid crystal portion including a liquid crystal material between said face and intermediary plates for displaying an image in accordance with the arrangement of the liquid crystal material; and a plasma portion formed by sealing a discharge gas between the intermediary and rear plates for rearranging the liquid crystal material by adjusting the discharging state of the discharge gas. The LCD has AC voltage-supply parallel column electrodes on the inner surface of the face plate for supplying a constant frequency AC voltage, data signal-supply anodes on the inner surface of the rear plate for supplying data signals, and line scanning signal-supplying cathodes insulated from and at right angles to the data signal-supply anodes on the inner surface of the rear plate for supplying line scanning signals. A driving method of the display is also provided. Both the liquid crystal portion and the plasma addressing portion can be driven by just one driving IC which reduces manufacturing cost and enhances the display's response.

    摘要: The indicia display device of the present invention comprises a sealed compartment having a dielectric substrate therein. A plurality of first conductor runs are imposed on the substrate which is subsequently coated with a first layer of dielectric material having a plurality of apertures therethrough. The apertures provide vias for a plurality of second conductors to electrically connect the first conductors to a pre-determined pattern of indicia cathode segments superimposed on the first layer of dielectric material. The apertures are remotely positioned from the cathode segments and may be located either within or without the pattern of cathode segments. A second layer of delectric material is imposed on the first layer covering the apertures and second conductors with the edges of this layer abutting the edges of the cathode segments. A thin transparent anode is located on the inner surface of the window of the sealed compartment. An ionizable gas is within the compartment and produces a cathode glow adjacent cathode segments whenever an electrical potential of predetermined magnitude is imposed between the cathodes and anodes.
