摘要:
A rotary type inverter capable of generating a variable pulse train electro-mechanically for converting D.C. to A.C. with a Sine wave shape, and consists primarily of a D.C. electric motor driving a "variable pulse width" generating drum. Mounted over this drum are electrical current collecting sliding brushes. These are first: To bring in input D.C. source voltage to an electrically conductive slip ring imbedded 360 degrees into a solid drum made of electrically insulating material; Second: To collect the A.C. voltage output generated by electrically conductive segments of variable widths, also imbedded upon and around this electrically insulating drum material.

A mechanical device for converting direct current into three-phase alternating current includes a contact unit having at least two receiving regions for receiving electrical energy as direct current and at least three output regions for outputting electrical energy as alternating current. A first receiving region contacts a positive pole of a direct current feed. A second receiving region contacts a negative pole of the direct current feed. A first output region provides a first alternating current, a second output region provides a second alternating current, and a third output region provides a third alternating current. A contacting unit receives the direct current and/or outputs the alternating current, and an assembly provides contact of the output regions with three phases of a dynamoelectric rotating machine. An isolator between two of the output regions and the contact prevents the contact from making contact with the two output regions at a same time.

A voltage converting method and a voltage converting apparatus using a large electrolytic condenser are provided. In the method according to an embodiment of the invention, when the level of an input alternating voltage is equal to or greater than a first predetermined level and smaller than a second predetermined level that is smaller than the first predetermined level, the input alternating voltage is rectified to produce an output direct voltage. When the level of the input alternating voltage is equal to or greater than the second predetermined level, the rectification of the input alternating voltage is stopped. Thereafter, if the provision of the input alternating voltage is stopped and then resumed, the production of the output direct voltage is resumed. Accordingly, the large electrolytic condenser can be protected without physically destroying any device, and the output direct voltage can be immediately produced from the input alternating voltage when the level of the input alternating voltage returns to its normal state. Thus, the production of the output direct voltage is simplified, and unnecessary repair costs are avoided. Also, the cause of inrush current that can be introduced into the large electrolytic condenser is advantageously removed.

A power semiconductor package includes a first group of semiconductor dies attached to a first side of a substrate and evenly distributed over a width of the substrate and a second group of semiconductor dies attached to the first side of the substrate and evenly distributed over the substrate width. Each die in the first and second groups has all terminals at one side which is attached to the first side of the substrate and an insulated or isolated face at a side opposite the side with the terminals. A first intermediary metal layer of the substrate forms a first DC terminal. A second intermediary metal layer of the substrate forms a second DC terminal. These intermediary metal layers are insulated from one another and form a parallel plate waveguide. Additional power semiconductor package embodiments are described.

Disclosed herein are various embodiments of compact coil power transformers configured to provide high voltage isolation and high voltage breakdown performance characteristics in small packages. Compact coil transformers are provided across which power may be transmitted and received by primary and secondary coils disposed on opposing sides of a substrate without high voltage breakdowns occurring therebetween. At least portions of the compact coil transformer are formed of an electrically insulating, non-metallic, non-semiconductor, low dielectric loss material. The compact coil transformers may be formed in small packages using, by way of example, printed circuit boards, flex circuits, lead frames, CMOS and other fabrication and packaging processes.

Disclosed is a rotatable inverter. The rotatable inverter comprises a rotatable inverting means for inverting a DC power source to an AC power source by means of a rotational force, and a transformer which receives the AC power source inverted by the rotatable inverting means and outputs a predetermined higher voltage. The rotatable inverting means comprises a motor generating the rotational force, a commutator driven by the motor and a plurality of brushes which are respectively contacted with the outer surface of the commutator. The commutator comprises a cylindrical body made of an insulating material, and conductive parts which are divided into an even-number by non-conductive parts, respectively, having a desired width. Further, it is preferable that the cooling fan is coupled to the motor along with the commutator. Therefore, the manufacturing cost is lowered, the attrition rate of the current is lowered, the energy lost by heat is decreased, the size of the microwave oven can be smaller, and the output frequency from the rotatable inverter can be controlled to be kept constant and the microwaves are also more stably radiated.

The cam-controlled electromechanical rotary power inverter converts a plurality of DC source voltages to an AC power output by an electromechanical mechanism that includes a rotating assembly of cams intermittently contacting a series of brushes connected to the DC source voltages to sequentially add the DC voltages and then sequentially subtract the DC voltages over 360° of rotation of the cam assembly. In this manner, the inverter provides multilevel, e.g., seven discrete voltage levels, which are distributed as output sequentially in an additive manner and then a subtractive mariner to generate nearly sinusoidal voltages. Repeating sequences of brushes and cams over three 120° intervals allows for 3-phase AC voltage output from the inverter.
