The invention describes managing, via the receiver, a specific correction of telephone signal degradation caused by the length of the analogue line between the parties. Advantageously, the line lengths between the receiver of the called party and the corresponding switchboard are stored, for example in the director of the apparatus.     摘要: A DSL transmitter and receiver are disclosed that efficiently estimate crosstalk interference. When transmitting over a DSL cable, each of the lines of the cable cause interference in the signals traveling though the other lines in the form of crosstalk. In order to reduce the complexity of the crosstalk estimation calculations, the transmitter sends a measurement signal whose matrix includes a plurality of sub-matrices that include less than all of the signal slots and are modulated with QAM +1s or −1s. Meanwhile, the remaining signal slots are modified with QAM 0 s, which do not require any processing during the crosstalk estimation. Rather than calculating crosstalk vectors of all lines, the receiver need only calculate the crosstalk vectors for the signal slots contained within the sub-matrices, thereby significantly reducing complexity.

The system, based on a common mode signal of a received signal, generates an estimate of noise or interference within a differential mode signal of the received signal. The system then subtracts the estimate from the differential mode signal in an effort to remove noise from the differential mode signal thereby providing a differential mode signal that is substantially free of the estimated noise or interference.

In response to receiving the notification, the transmitter may further selectively prevent at least a portion of the plurality of text telephone symbols from being provided for transmission.
