Abstract:
The invention relates to selecting a set of candidate genes from a pool of genes. The method comprising receiving a set of gene data; arranging the set of gene data into a set of clusters with similar profiles by use of a clustering algorithm; and inputting the set of clusters into a genetic algorithm to select a set of candidate genes from the set of clusters. The method thus relates to hybrid between selection by clustering computation and selection by evolutionary computation. This hybrid is also referred to as an evolutionary clustering algorithm (ECA).
Abstract:
A methylation classification list comprising loci DNA, for which loci the methylation status of the DNA is indicative of likelihood of recurrence of cancer, is provided. Furthermore, a method, apparatus and use for predicting probability of relapse free survival of a subject diagnosed with cancer, are provided.
Abstract:
This invention proposes a control system (100) for controlling a device. The proposed control system (100) comprises a first portion (20) having at least one area, each of said at least one area reflecting a function of said device respectively; and a second portion (21) having at least one area, each of said at least one area reflecting an option of a function reflected by a first given area of said first portion (20) respectively. When said first given area of said first portion (20) is connected with a second given area of said second portion (21), said control system is adapted to send a signal to said device (150) for triggering the device (150) to perform the function reflected by said first given area, using the option reflected by said second given area.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for the detection of a DNA methylation signature associated with the presence of or the predisposition to develop a disorder, the method comprising the identification of one or more candidate genes exhibiting differential DNA methylation in target and reference samples as well as the respective determination of the nucleic acid sites in said candidate genes that are differentially methylated and the recognition sites for DNA binding factors, said DNA binding factors each recognizing such a differentially methylated nucleic acid site, wherein the patterns of differentially methylated nucleic acid sites and of DNA binding factor recognition sites obtained together represent a DNA methylation signature that is indicative for the presence of or the predisposition to develop a disorder in a target sample.
Abstract:
According to one aspect, the invention provides an interactive gaming system comprising at least one tile, each tile comprising a pressure sensor, a controller being for generating a control signal associated with the pressure exerted on the tile and tile communicator for wirelessly sending the control signal to a control unit. The system further comprises a control unit comprising control unit communicator arranged for wirelessly receiving the control signal from a tile, a game controller comprising a game memory and an interpreter for interpreting the control signal in the light of a stored game and a signal generator for generating signals associated with the interpreted control signal. A tile further comprises an orientation sensor for identifying on which side of the tile the pressure is exerted. In one aspect the present invention provides a more versatile gaming system.
Abstract:
An autostereoscopic display device comprises a display (103) having an array of display pixels (105) and a view forming arrangement (109) of elongate elements which have a long axis which is slanted at an angle α to the column pixel direction, and the elements have a pitch of P times the width between pixels of the same colour in different columns. The pitch P is selected to be: P= 0.5. k. (1+ S 2 ) in which S=tan α, and k is a positive integer. This arrangement enables the resulting image projected in respect of each view to have a uniform and regular distribution of pixels across the image. This improves the visual appearance of the views.
Abstract:
There is provided a method for analyzing a ballistocardiogram signal to detect heart beats, the method comprising filtering the ballistocardiogram signal to extract high frequency components; squaring the filtered ballistocardiogram signal; filtering the squared and filtered ballistocardiogram signal to give a resulting signal; and identifying peaks in the resulting signal, the locations of which correspond to the locations of the high frequency components, each identified peak corresponding to a heartbeat.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a luminescent photovoltaic generator (1) and a waveguide for use in such a photovoltaic generator. The photovoltaic generator comprises a photovoltaic cell (4) and a waveguide comprising a transparent matrix (2) having particles of an inorganic luminescent material dispersed therein and/or an inorganic luminescent material disposed at at least one side thereof (6). The waveguide is associated with the photovoltaic cell (4), such that, in use, at least some of the light emitted from the luminescent material passes into the photovoltaic cell (4) to generate a voltage in the cell. In preferred embodiments, the inorganic luminescent material is a line emitter and the emission is due to a forbidden electronic transition within the material. The inorganic luminescent material may be selected from an inorganic phosphor, an inorganic fluorescent material and quantum dots, quantum rods and quantum core/shell systems. The photovoltaic generator (1) is an alternative to or an improvement upon known photovoltaic generators, which generally suffer from a lack of power yield per area.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method and a system of silhouette image representation of a subject located at a remote location. Input data relating to the remote location are received, one or more graphical indicator indicating graphically at least one local condition at the remote location is obtained based on the received input data, and the one or more graphical indicators are incorporated in the silhouette image.
Abstract:
The invention provides a padding for a carpet. The padding comprises a first padding face and a tube at least partly integrated in the padding. The tube comprises a transmissive section, transmissive for light having a predetermined wavelength selected from the visible spectrum. A lighting device may be introduced in the tube. The invention further provides a carpet-padding combination and a combination of the tube and a lighting device.
