Abstract:
There is provided an apparatus (2) for the forming or curing of a fibre-reinforced polymer composite material (10). The apparatus (2) comprises a first layer of material (4) positioned to overly the fibre-reinforced polymer (10); a second layer of material (6) positioned to overly the first layer (4) to define a chamber (8) therebetween. The apparatus (2) further comprises a vapour source (16) and a fluid communication path having; a transfer section (18) in fluid communication with the vapour source (16) and chamber (8), and, a return section (20) in fluid communication with the chamber (8) and the vapour source (16).
Abstract:
The invention relates to the field of joining (splicing) or repair of rubber or rubber-containing layers by a hot vulcanising process in which heat and pressure are applied to effect the splice or repair. The invention provides an airbag cover (141) made from a flexible material and comprising at least one pocket for containing an airbag and comprising means (142) for locating one or more attachment straps (150). In use, the airbag cover (141) is employed with an airbag, a reinforcing plate (130) and a heat pad (120), the apparatus being secured to or around the layer (10) being joined or repaired by means of the attachment straps (150). The heat pad (120) and airbag are then activated to apply the required heat and pressure. Compared to prior art systems, the system of the invention is lightweight and portable. It is also straightforward to assemble and operate.
Abstract:
This invention describes novel design and construction method for inflatable, pressure intensifier equipment that can be used for processing composites structures. The equipment can be used as a manufacturing and processing platform wherever low pressure and high temperature inputs are required in an enclosed volume.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
The present invention provides a connecting device (100).for connecting an unhardened fibre layer (104) which is arranged on a surface section (112) of a fibre compound structure (102) to the fibre compound structure. The connecting device comprises pressure cushion (390) comprising a pressure cap (120,308) for being arranged above the surface section and a pressure tight cap mat (106) which is pressure tightly connected to a circumferential border (107) of the pressure cap, thereby forming a pressure area which is limited by the pressure cap and. by the cap mat. The connecting device further comprises a pressure inducing means (302) for inducing an overpressure which presses the cap mat against the fibre layer into the pressure area. According to a further aspect the invention provides a processing method for processing a fibre compound structure.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A method of repairing a composite material product by adhering a repair patch to the composite material product with an adhesive or epoxy resin that includes magnetic particles. Thus, the adhesive or epoxy resin can be cured by electromagnetically exciting the magnetic particles, such as by microwave heating. The electromagnetically excited magnetic particles internally heat the adhesive or epoxy resin to the predetermined Curie Point temperature of the magnetic particles such that the adhesive or epoxy resin cures in a uniform and inspectable fashion. The magnetic particles can be mixed into an adhesive, such as a paste adhesive, a film adhesive or a foam adhesive, to create a magnetic particle integrated adhesive. The magnetic particle integrated adhesive can then be applied between a precured repair patch and the underlying composite material product. Alternatively, the magnetic particles can be distributed within the organic resin of an uncured repair patch such that the repair patch can be simultaneously cured and adhered to the composite material product by electromagnetically exciting the magnetic particles. In either embodiment, the adhesive or the epoxy resin is adapted to cure within a predetermined range of cure temperatures. Thus, the magnetic particles, such as Ferrous Silicide, should have a predetermined Curie Point temperature within the predetermined range of cure temperatures.
