Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing a composite body (1) comprising a support body (2) and at least one decorative element (3), preferably a jewel (3a, 3b), the support body comprising (2) a thermoplastic material. The method is characterised by the steps: • arrangement of the decorative element (3) on the support body (2), • heating of the support body (2), • pressing of the decorative element (3) into the support body (2) using a stamp (4) consisting of an elastically deformable material, the material of the stamp (4) being selected from the group of elastomers.

The mold plate includes a recessed surface and a plate guide surface, where the recessed surface is configured to couple to the composite lay-up and the plate guide surface is configured to couple to the ring guide surface. The apparatus also includes an autoclave (600) that applies pressure to the mold ring and the mold plate to move the plate guide surface along the ring guide surface to apply pressure to the composite lay-up.
Abstract:
The invention is a new procedure for making glass frames obtained from boards (T) made of a plastic or composite material, comprising one step for deforming a pre-heated single- layer or multilayer board (T) on one or two curvature planes (X, Y) transverse to each other, and wherein said deformation step is carried out before the board (T) is milled to create the shape of the glass frame. The equipment suited to implement the procedure that is the subject of the invention comprises a half-mould (S) and an element (B) for closing the upper opening of the half-mould (S), with deformable membrane (M), and wherein the injection of air (W) in said air space (C) causes the expansion of said deformable membrane (M) that compresses a board (T) against said half-mould (S), thus deforming it in a corresponding way.
Abstract:
Methods of the invention include those for applying protective sheets to articles. According to these methods and resulting articles, a protective sheet is applied to at least a portion of an exterior surface where protection is desired on an article. At least one portion of at least one exterior surface of the article to be protected can be integrally formed in the presence of the protective sheet. Improved bonding of the protective sheet to the article and improved processing efficiency are advantageously achieved according to the invention.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a decorative components for vehicle interiors, comprises the steps of pre-forming a sheet (5) of formable veneer material under pressure and heath, positioning the pre-formed sheet in a mold half (2) of an injection mold comprising a cavity (4); holding the sheet (5) in position on the mold half (2), closing said mold and injecting into the cavity one or more thermoplastic materials on the back of the veneer sheet (5) to provide a support layer (6).
Abstract:
A vacuum press of the kind comprising an open topped chamber (7) in which a substrate article (9) may be placed, sealing means to engage a peripheral margin of a thermoplastics lamina (11) so that the lamina extends across the chamber as a sealed closure for the open top thereof, heating means (14) above the lamina to heat and soften the lamina, and vacuum inducing means (15, 18, 19) to evacuate a space below the lamina between it and the substrate article and thereby cause or allow the heated lamina to be pressed into conformation with the substrate article, is characterised in that the chamber is provided with a lid (8) able to seal with a peripheral margin of the lamina, in that the lid is adapted to withstand evacuation of a space above the lamina between it and the lid, in that the vacuum inducing means may operate to withdraw air from the space above and the space below the lamina, and in that vent means (20) are provided to break the vacuum in the space above the lamina when it is to be pressed into conformity with the substrate article. A method is also claimed.
Abstract:
The process consists essentially of a way to mould polymeric products, with total or partial strengthening, by making pressure by means of an elastic membrane on the walls of the mould, giving at the same time, form to the polymeric product and subjecting the strengthening to a defined and permanent residual lengthening.
Abstract:
A molding assembly for high temperature composite articles utilizes low temperature inflatable mandrels to produce composite articles from a thermoforming compound. The molding assembly includes a first mold form, a second mold form, at least one inflation adapter, and a mandrel bladder. The first mold form and the second mold form each comprise a molding recess to mold the thermoforming compound as the thermoforming compound is heated. The mandrel bladder is pressurized to inflate and press the thermoforming compound against the first mold form and the second mold form. Each inflation adapter comprises a mandrel conduit and a cooling conduit. The mandrel conduit allows for the inflation and deflation of the mandrel bladder. The cooling conduit allows for a stream of coolant to flow adjacent to the mandrel bladder to prevent structural degradation of the mandrel bladder from the temperatures necessary to transition the thermoforming compound into a fluid.

Abstract:
Provided is a process for thermoforming a gas and liquid permeable layer of thermoplastic material (12, 32) having an average thickness of less than 0.50 mm, the process comprising the steps of bringing the layer into contact with a layer of deformable non-gas permeable material (10, 30) to form a separable laminate of the two materials, arranging for the thermoplastic material to be at a thermoformable temperature and thermoforming the separable laminate, thereby thermoforming the thermoplastic material.
