Abstract:
In an external mix, plural component application system, a first component is formed into a plurality of small, spaced streams arranged in an array (401) and projected at a substrate (14). A second component is formed into two air-entrained sprays and dispensed from nozzles (442a, 442b) and directed at the streams of the first component from adjacent the opposite sides of the array (401) to assist atomization of the streams into particles and to mix the components. A plurality of flows of compressed air are directed at the substrate (14) to from nozzles (441a, 441b) adjacent the opposite sides of the array (401) between the two sprays of second component to contain plural component emissions. A second plurality of flows of compressed air at lower flow rates is directed forwardly from apertures (450a, 450b, 450c, 450d) to inhibit an accumulation of the plural component material on the face of the nozzle assembly.
Abstract:
A corrugated paperboard strength enhancing process includes at least one resin application station located within the confines of the corrugator at a position where it is operable to apply a preselected amount of strength enhancing resin to at least one side of the medium after it has been fluted and most preferably before adhesive has been applied to the medium for securing liner paper thereto. At least one liner is adhered to the set of opposed flute tips. Thereafter the combined board with the resin compound on selected transverse portions of the fluted medium is allowed to cure, under selected temperature and moisture conditions and without the application of pressure that would crush the fluted medium. A suitable resin for the intended purpose is an isocyanate compound. The strength-enhanced corrugated paperboard can be efficiently repulped.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dispensing droplets (120) of molten thermoplastic adhesive onto a moving substrate (121) comprises a spray device (10) having a nozzle (14) formed with a discharge outlet (57) which ejects a continuous stream of molten thermoplastic adhesive (119). A stitcher device (152) connected to a source of pressurized air is operative to supply intermittent, pulsed jets of atomizing air to air jet bores (118) associated with the nozzle which discharge the pulsed air jets into contact with the exterior of the continuous stream of molten thermoplastic material with sufficient energy to shear well defined globules or droplets from the continuous stream and either allow such droplets to fall onto the substrate under the influence of gravity and due to the momentum of the stream in an essentially straight-line pattern, or to project such droplets onto the substrate to form an essentially random pattern of droplets.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, a waste liquid evaporation apparatus includes a waste liquid supply unit and a high pressure air injection unit. The waste liquid supply unit supplies a waste liquid to a space outside the waste liquid supply unit and the high pressure air injection unit beyond the Venturi effect. The high pressure air injection unit applies high pressure air to the waste liquid supplied from the waste liquid supply unit to the space and atomizes the waste liquid.
Abstract:
The advantage of this construction is that the time between manual cleanings of the frontal area of the gun can be lengthened or eliminated. The spray gun utilizes high pressure air forced through thin openings and that surround the spray tip, to eliminate the eddies in the air flow around the frontal area of the spray gun. One concentric thin opening surrounds the spray tip and is directed parallel to the direction of spray. With a second concentric thin opening, the air is directed at an angle of about 55 degrees relative to the axis or direction of spray.
Abstract:
Applicators or dispensers (10) configured to dispense a hollow or shaped filament (29) and methods of dispensing in which the hollow or shaped filament (29) is impinged with gas jets (31). The applicator (10) includes a dispenser body (12) configured to discharge the hollow or shaped filament (29) and a plurality of gas outlets (47, 49, 51 , 53, 55, 57) arranged to impinge the filament (29) in the space between the dispenser or applicator (10) and the substrate (33).
Abstract:
An external mix air atomizing spray nozzle assembly comprising a nozzle body having liquid and air flow passages, and an air cap formed with an air chamber communicating with said air passage and a plurality of angled pressurized air discharge passages communicating with said chamber at an angle to a central axis of said spray nozzle assembly for directing pressurized air onto a liquid flow stream discharging from said liquid passage. The angled air discharge passages each are defined by a conical indentation in a front face of the air cap and a cylindrical bore communicating in perpendicular relation to a side surface of the conical indentation. The design of the angled air discharge passages permits easy manufacture and design modification for particular spray applications.
