Trailer brake wear is reduced by penalizing an operator of the tractor for each unauthorized activation of the manual trailer brake control. Testing of the connection of the tractor to the trailer is encouraged by tracking the activation of the manual trailer brake control and penalizing the operator for failure to test the connection.

Such an arrangement provides improved lever "feel" and substantially prevents transverse loading of the piston (74). In an alternative arrangement, the engagement portion (96') may include a protruding arm (110) that engages the end surface of the piston (74'), for use with hydraulic control systems (60') where the piston (74') is recessed within a housing.

The present invention also relates to an arrangement and a method of controlling servo devices for the driving of a motor vehicle, utilising the control (13) mounted on the steering wheel.
