Abstract:
In accordance with this invention, there is provided a blend which comprises the reaction product of an aryl alcohol and an alkyl or aryl carboxylic acid and the reaction product of a C 1 -C 22 linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated alcohol and a hydroxy acid. The blend provides enhanced solubilization of active and functional organic compounds.
Abstract:
An oral care composition comprising a copolymer of an alkyl vinyl ether and maleic acid or anhydride, a surface active vegetable gum, and a non-cationic antibacterial agent. The composition exhibits increased uptake and retention of the non-cationic antibacterial agent on application to teeth.
Abstract:
An active or functional organic compound is solubilized by an ester of an aryl alcohol, e.g., phenethyl, benzyl or substituted benzyl alcohol, and an alkyl or cycloalkyl carboxylic acid, or by a carbonate of said aryl alcohol and an alkyl or cycloalkyl carbonic acid.
Abstract:
An active or functional organic compound is solubilized in a diaryl organic compound having a polar or polarizable functional group therein, as a solvent, cosolvent or additive, to form a composition thereof. Representative active or functional organic compounds include those present in personal care products, e.g., sunscreens containing UVA/UVB absorbing compounds, such as avobenzone, benzophenone-3, and 4-methylbenzylidene camphor. Such compositions also show increased SPF, UVA/UVB absorbance ratio, and critical wavelength performance properties.
Abstract:
There is provided a ridge ventilation system that comprises a ridge slot disposed longitudinally in a ridge of a roof and a fan disposed in the ridge slot for actively exhausting air from an attic substantially enclosed by the roof, sidewalls and ceiling into the ambient atmosphere. There is further provided a method for ventilating that comprises disposing a ridge slot longitudinally in a ridge of the roof and operating a fan disposed in the ridge slot to actively exhaust air from the attic into the ambient atmosphere. Lastly, there is provided a method for installing the ridge ventilation system that comprises constructing a ridge slot longitudinally disposed in a ridge of the roof and disposing a fan in the ridge slot to actively exhaust air from the attic into the ambient atmosphere.
Abstract:
Benzoquinone compositions of enhanced solubility and bioavailability are described that contain at least one benzoquinone with at least one solubility-enhancing polymer. In one embodiment, the benzoquinone is coenzyme Q10. Described methods to produce the bioenhanced products comprise dry blending and solvent spray drying. One aspect of the method includes the steps of providing a mixture comprising benzoquinone, a solubility-enhancing polymer and a solvent and removing the solvent to form amorphous benzoquinone. Products made by the invention's compositions and methods include pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetic, and personal care products for man and animal.
Abstract:
Tablets of a pharmaceutical, nutritional or vitamin active compound or composition, e.g. a poorly compressible drug are made by direct compression using a synergistic binder composition of co-processed (a) copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone (VP) and vinyl acetate (VA) and (b) microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), in a wt. ratio of (a):(b) of 1 -30:99-70, which is spray dried to provide a readily compressible excipient binder powder for such active. The tablets obtained herein have advantageous hardness and friability at an acceptable compression force.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a microbicidal composition which comprises a mixture of at least two components, the first component being 2-methyl-3-isothiazolone (MIT) and the second component being at least one active compound selected from the following groups of active compounds : a) compound having activated methylol groups b) quats or polyquats c) carbamates d) organic acids e) aromatic alcohols.
Abstract:
A process and apparatus for forming agglomerates of a powder composition of an active and binder such as a homopolymer or copolymer which includes passing the composition through a hot roller compactor to heat said binder material above its glass transition temperature.
