Abstract:
Rat attractant compositions attractive to the rat species Rattus norvegicus are disclosed, which compositions are constituted of compounds found in the headspace volatiles of male urine odor or female urine odor. Said compositions are respectively termed male pheromone blend (MPB) and comprises 2-heptanone, 4-heptanone, 3-ethyl-2-heptanone, 2-octanone, 2-nonanone, and 4-nonanone in a ratio of 10: 100: 10: 1 : 1 : 10 respectively, or female pheromone blend (FPB) and comprises 2-methyl-butyric acid, 3 -methyl-butyric acid, heptanal, hexanoic acid, 2-phenylacetaldehyde, nonanal, and decanal in a ratio of 20:20: 10:30:5:20: 10. Devices including the rat attractant compositions, and methods of using said rat attractant compositions, are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Provided herein are screening methods for identifying compounds for use as an arthropod repellent based on the masking or inhibition of the detection of the skin odor by a cpA neuron. Provided herein are also screening methods for identifying compounds for use as an arthropod attractant based on activation of the cpA neuron. Further provided are one or more compounds identified using the screening methods described herein, and compositions containing such compounds.
Abstract:
Disclosed are compositions comprising a) an antimicrobial agent, which is selected from the group consisting of biocides containing halogen atoms and/or containing phenolic moieties, formic acid, chlorine dioxide, chlorine dioxide generating compounds, dialdehydes; components containing an antimicrobial metal such as antimicrobial silver, and b) a polyamine, especially a polyethylenimine. The polyamine is effective as a booster for the antimicrobial agent.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a biocidal coating composition which provides long-term residual biocidal activity to a substrate coated therewith, and is in particular wash resistant and abrasion resistant. The biocidal coating composition comprises a biocide and a vinylpyrrolidone-based polymer, where the vinylpyrrolidone-based polymer hold the biocide deep within the surface of the substrate such that the biocide can remain associated with the substrate for prolonged periods of time.
Abstract:
A biocidal composition comprising 2,2-dibromomalonamide and an electrophile containing biocide, and its use for the control of microorganisms in aqueous and water- containing systems.
Abstract:
A biodelivery system has been found which increases the efficiency and effectiveness of introducing anti microbial compounds into complex biofilm matrices through the use of liposome carriers, thereby removing the biofouling in industrial water bearing s\ stems, including piping, heat exchanges, condensers, filtration s> stems and fluid storage tanks According to one embodiment of the invention, antimicrobial compound containing liposomes are added to water systems prone to biofouling and biofilm formation The liposomes, being similar in composition to microbial membranes or cells, are readily incorporated into the existing biofilm Once the antimicrobial compound containing liposomes become entrained with the biofilm matrix, the decomposition or disintegration of the liposome proceeds Thereafter the biocidal core is released to react directly with the biofilm encased microorganisms. Upon the death of the organisms, the matrix decomposes and thereby results m reduced fouling of the water bearing system, resulting in increased heat transfer, increased flux, less deposit of colloidal and particulate solids and dissolved organics on the surface of the microfiltration membrane, thereby reducing the frequency and duration of the membrane cleaning and ultimate replacement
Abstract:
A preservative and embalming fluid comprising a formulation comprising: a first surfactant; an antimicrobial agent; and a second surfactant selected from the group consisting of silanes, siloxanes, silicones, polysiloxanes, soya lecithins, fluorine-containing aliphatic compounds and mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
The invention relates to preservative systems which are particularly suitable in cosmetic and dermatological preparations. The preservative system which comprises a cationic surfactant, derived from the condensation of fatty acids and esterified dibasic amino acids, having the formula (I) where: X - is Br - , C1 - , or HSO 4 R 1 : is a straight alkyl chain from an acid or saturated fatty hydroxy acid from 8 to 14 atoms of carbon bonded to the α-amino acid group through amidic bond. R 2 : is a straight or branched alkyl chain from 1 to 18 carbon atoms or aromatic. R 3 : is: (II) where n can be from 0 to 4, is combined with at least one other ionic or non-ionic preservative agent, whereby the combination displays a synergetic activity. A preservative system, wherein the cationic surfactant preservative derived from the condensation of fatty acids and esterified dibasic amino acid is LAE is particularly preferred. The other ionic or non ionic preservative agent is preferably at least one component selected from the group consisting of 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol (bronopol), parbens, imidazolidinyl urea, phenoxyethanol, DMDM hydantoin, 2-methyl-5-chloro-3,4-isothiazolinone/2-methyl-3,4-isothiazolinone and quaternium-15.
Abstract:
Methods of inhibiting the growth of organisms in aqueous systems such as papermaking systems, cooling systems and process waters of various types, comprises adding to the aqueous system a hop acid. Compositions comprising hop acids and papermaking suspensions or slurries, and/or additives, such as paper making additives, are also provided.
