Abstract:
A catalyst-modified corrugated cigarette paper wrapper (140) comprises a fibrous web (142), an optional web-filler material (144) supported by the web (142), and catalyst particles (146) supported by the web (142) and/or the web-filler material (144). In cigarettes (100) comprising the catalyst-modified corrugated cigarette paper (140), the corrugations define axially-extending channels (150) that can run the length of a tobacco rod (110). The corrugations can increase the catalytic efficiency of catalyst particles (146) that are incorporated within the catalyst-modified corrugated cigarette paper wrapper (140).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the cigarette making apparatus (10), which may comprise a housing (12) with mechanical and electrical features. Cigarette apparatus (10) has a solenoid-assisted hopper (14) for accepting loose tobacco (15), a cigarette tube filling cassette (16) with nozzles (30) and a hinged lid (34) for assisting in maintaining cigarette tubes (24) in a predetermined alignment for loading tobacco (15), a filling area (17) with an indexing means for aligning cigarette tubes (24) with a tobacco pushing means inside the apparatus, a cigarette tube loading and tobacco packing means (18) with guide pins (20) for guiding the cassette (16) in engagement with flattened tip pins (22) that compress tobacco (15) into cigarette tubes (24) after tobacco (15) has been inserted, and an electronic control area (26), which may include an electronic display (82) for controlling the cigarette tube filling and packing apparatus.
Abstract:
A flavor pouch (20) includes a porous covering (22) that encloses a carrier (30) having a flavorant. The carrier (30) may be solid or particulate. Flavorants may be one or more of tea, coffee, rose hips, honey, royal jelly, fruit extracts, mint, sweeteners, ginger, pepper extract, exotic flavors, ethnic flavors and the like. Where the carrier comprises a plurality of beads, the beads may have randomly dissolvable encapsulation to extend the time duration of flavor release. To use the flavor pouch (20) , it is placed in the mouth and masticated or exposed to saliva to thereby release the flavorant.
Abstract:
A pocket-size hand-held container (10) (100) for containing a supply of consumer items comprises a frame (12) , a lid (14) (114) , and preferably a bag (60) (70) disposed in the container (10) for holding the items being stored. The frame (12) includes front (12a) and back (12b) portions, top (12c) and bottom (12d) portions, and side portions (12e) (12f ) (125a) . The front portion (12a) forms an access opening (40) (140) for the storage compartment(21) , the access opening (40) (140) being situated closer to the top portion (12c) than to the bottom portion (12d) . The lid (14) (114) is attached to the front portion (12a) to be slid linearly between fully closed and fully open positions. In its fully open position, the lid (14) (114) lies within the footprint of the container (10) (100) . A securement structure formed by the lid (14) (114) and the frame (12) yieldably holds the lid (14) (114) in the closed position.
Abstract:
A method of producing a multi -modal pore distribution activated carbon is provided herein by preparing a solution comprising a polymer precursor, mixing an additional material with the polymer precursor in the solution, cross -linking the polymer precursor with the additional material mixed therein, carbonizing the mixture of the polymer precursor and the additional material, and activating the carbonized mixture to form a multi-modal pore distribution activated carbon. The multi -modal pore distribution activated carbon can include pores less than 2nm and greater than 3nm or 50nm depending upon the sorption properties desired, wherein the pore distribution of the activated carbon can be tailored to provide predetermined kinetics and/or gaseous constituent equilibrium isotherms.
Abstract:
A high-speed apparatus (2) for applying material to cigarette paper during manufacture uses at least two independently operable, moving orifice devices (10,10') , each positioned to deposit horizontal bands of material on a paper web (22) at the dry end of a Fourdrinier wire (6). The resulting web may be cut into multiple webs, each web having a width corresponding to the effective width of a moving orifice device. The apparatus can simultaneously produce both banded and unhanded paper for wrapping tobacco during cigarette manufacturing.
Abstract:
A tobacco smoking mixture including an ammonia-release compound adapted to be formed into a lit-end cigarette is provided. The ammonia-release compound is incorporated in or on tobacco cut filler in an amount effective to reduce the cytotoxicity, and/or selective smoke constituents of cigarette smoke. Exemplary ammonia-release compounds include ammonium acetate, ammonium hydroxide, hexammine cobalt (III) chloride, hexammine cobalt (III) acetate, and combinations thereof. The ammonia-release compounds can release ammonia at temperatures between about 60°C and about 400°C. Ammonia-release compounds can be combined with additives, such as glycerine, cobalt acetate, copper (II) acetate, zinc acetate, other metal salts or combinations thereof, to further reduce the cytotoxicity of cigarette smoke .
