摘要:
The invention relates to a method for monitoring the condition of a continuous element (44) moving in a fiber web or paper finishing machine, said monitoring being performed with a rotating machine element (41), which is equipped with a sensor assembly (24) that measures force or pressure and against which the continuous element moves. In the method, the machine element is made to rotate against the continuous element, a measurement signal (25) is generated between the machine element and the continuous element with the sensor assembly, and a cross-directional profile (21) of force or pressure generated between the machine element and the continuous element is formed from the measurement signal. Said moving continuous element is a fabric (32, 33) installed in a fabric run (22, 23) traveling via the machine element. In the method, the fabric is additionally installed in a fabric run, wherein it moves via said machine element equipped with a sensor assembly, a reference profile (35) is formed for the cross-directional profile after installing the fabric in the fabric run, the cross- directional profile formed from the measurement signal and representing force or pressure generated between the machine element and the fabric is compared with the reference profile, and information (37) is produced from the comparison for monitoring the condition of the fabric. The invention also relates to a corresponding system and a computer program product.

Collecting data includes generating a sensor signal from each of a plurality of sensors located on a sensing roll, wherein each signal is generated when each sensor enters a region of a nip between the sensing roll and mating roll during each rotation of the sensing roll; wherein a web of material travels through the nip and a continuous band contacts a region of the web of material upstream from or at the nip. A periodically occurring starting reference is generated associated with each rotation of the continuous band and the signal generated by each sensor is received so that the one of the plurality of sensors which generated this signal is determined and one of a plurality of tracking segments associated with the continuous band is identified. The signal is stored to associate the respective sensor signal with the identified one tracking segment.

A method of determining the rotative position of an industrial roll includes (a) providing a rotating industrial roll having a longitudinal axis, the industrial roll having mounted on one end thereof an accelerometer, the industrial roll further including a plurality of sensors; (b) determining a pre-trigger angular position of the roll based on a first gravity vector provided by the accelerometer; then (c) determining a trigger angular position of the roll based on a second gravity vector provided by the accelerometer, the magnitude of the second gravity vector differing from the magnitude of the first gravity vector by more than the magnitude of a typical noise signal; and (d) gathering data from the sensors after the roll has passed the trigger angular position; and (e) matching data gathered in step (d) with a respective sensor of the plurality of sensors based on the determination of the trigger angular position.

Multiple groups of sensors are circumferentially spaced apart at each cross-directional position along a sensing roll of a nip press to measure and cancel or nearly cancel the effects of rotational variability which may be acting on the sensing roll. The strategically-placed sensors are designed to measure the pressure being placed against the web that is being advanced through the nip press. The average of the measurements of multiple sensors spaced circumferential apart provides a good cancellation of any rotational variability that might be found at a cross-directional position on the sensing roll. In this manner, a more true measurement of the nip pressure profile can be obtained and better adjustments made to reduce nip pressure profile variability. In addition, the nip variability profile may be used as a predictor of cover or bearing failures, resonant frequencies and other roll anomalies.

A method of determining the angular position of a roll includes: (a) detecting signals generated by an accelerometer attached to an end of a rotating roll; (b) determining whether a signal generated in step (a) has reached a pre-trigger threshold, and repeating step (a) if the signal has not reached the pre-trigger threshold; (c) if the signal is determined in step (b) to have reached the pre-trigger threshold, detecting a subsequent signal generated by the accelerometer; (d) determining whether the signal detected in step (c) has reached a trigger threshold, and repeating step (c) if the signal has not reached the trigger threshold; and (e) if the signal has reached the trigger threshold, establishing the angular position of the roll based on the signal that has reached the trigger threshold.

The invention relates to method for drying a coated or surface-sized fibrous web (W), in which method the fibrous web is coated or surface-sized and after the coating or surface-sizing the fibrous web is dried in a drying line (1) comprising two or more drying units (6). In the method, the final moisture content of the web (W) being dried is measured after (16) the drying line (1), the temperature (T 1 ) of the web (W) being dried is measured in connection (8) with each drying unit (6) respectively and the drying capacity of each drying unit (6) is adjusted on the basis of the difference between the measured temperature (T 1 ) and the set value (T 0 ) of the maximum temperature set for the drying unit in question to control the temperature of the web (W). The invention also relates to an arrangement for implementing the method.

A method includes determining one or more setpoint changes for one or more actuators (114-126) in a process control system (100). Determining the one or more setpoint changes includes making larger or more frequent setpoint changes when operating in a first mode and making smaller or less frequent setpoint changes when operating in a second mode. The method also includes outputting the one or more setpoint changes to the one or more actuators (114-126). The method could further include entering the first mode after a paper sheet (108) has broken and been rethreaded through a paper machine (102). The method could also include entering the second mode (i) after a specified amount of time has elapsed since entering the first mode or (ii) after the first mode has been entered and a caliper profile of the paper sheet (108) is within a specified threshold of a desired caliper profile.
