Abstract:
A method for the treatment of cellulose fibers is provided, the method comprising the steps of - impregnation of cellulose fibers with a solution comprising a tetraalkoxysilane and a solvent selected from monofunctional alcohols R 4 OH; - squeezing out the solution from in between the cellulose fiber walls; wherein the weight ratio of the solution to the dry weight of the cellulose fibers after the step of squeezing is lower than 2.

In one aspect, the present invention is directed to a coating composition. The coating composition comprises photocatalytic particles and an alkali metal silicate binder comprising an alkoxysilane. In another aspect, the present invention is directed to a coated article. The coated article has a photocatalytic coating with improved durability on its external surface that is formed from the aforesaid coating composition.
Abstract:
A method for increasing the strength of the bond between a cementitious layer and a tile or substrate layer, including applying a coating of high-silica glaze to the tile, bonding the high- silica glaze to the tile, bonding the high-silica glaze to the cementious layer, and curing the cementitious layer to yield a high-strength bonded tile system. The high-silica glaze further includes silica and flux. The molar ratio of silica to flux is at least about 5 to 1 and the flux further comprises RO and R2O. The molar ratio of RO to R2O is at least about 7 to 3. RO is selected from the group including CaO, SrO, BaO, ZnO, FeO, PbO and their combinations and R2O is selected from the group including Li2O, Na2O, K2O, and their combinations.
Abstract:
Lightweight, fiber reinforced, cementitious panels possessing exceptional toughness for use as building components in applications such as roofing elements, siding elements, framing and sheathing elements, and substrate elements for installation of floor finishes in residential and other building construction types. The panels employ a continuous phase resulting from the curing of an aqueous mixture of inorganic binder, PVA fibers and lightweight filler. The inorganic binder may be, for example, hydraulic cement alone, or a combination of hydraulic cement and pozzolan/s, or a combination of hydraulic cement, alpha hemihydrate, active pozzolan and optionally lime. The PVA fibers reinforce the continuous phase and are randomly distributed throughout the composite. Typical panels of the invention have a density of 60 - 85 pcf.
Abstract:
A method of treating a contaminated material comprising forming a low-permeability barrier (20) over the contaminated material (21) thereby creating a substantially hydraulically closed system and treating the material beneath the barrier by at least one of delivering a substance to treat the contamination and removing flowable material from beneath the barrier (20).
Abstract:
Thermal insulation products are provided which comprise air-laid MMVF material through which particulate additive is distributed substantially homogeneously, and the particulate additive is selected from the group consisting of silicon, aluminium, mica, silica and titania. The additive particles are bonded to the surfaces of the MMV fibres by a binder. The product may be a granulated product but preferably comprises a layer which is an air-laid MMVF batt or batt stratum through which the additive is distributed. Improved thermal insulation ( lambda value) is obtained.
Abstract:
Low-pH mix water has dispersed capsules of expanding agent and a pH activated shell that becomes permeable at a higher cement slurry pH. Cement slurries and systems contain water, hydraulic cement, and the capsules. Cement slurry preparation methods involve forming a first mixture by dispersing the capsules in an aqueous medium, where the first mixture has a pH less than the activating pH, and mixing the first mixture with hydraulic cement to form the cement slurry having a pH greater than the activating pH. Pre-stressed cementing methods involve preparing the cement slurry, placing the slurry in an annulus in the well, hardening the cement, and delaying expansion of the set cement.
