Abstract:
A method for transmitting data over a wireless network to a plurality of receivers connected to the wireless network is provided consisting of applying a superposition coded multicast or broadcast so as to create a multi-resolution multicast or broadcast signal to transmit data to the plurality of receivers as a scalable multicast or broadcast. The method consists of separating the data into one or more quality layers; converting the data in each quality layer into individual protected layer data streams by applying a protection or robustness means; modulating each said protected layer data stream using a modulation means, the modulations means for each said protected layer data stream not necessarily being the same; superimposing the modulated data of all layers into a single broadcasting or multicasting transmission block; and transmitting the single broadcasting or multicasting transmission block to the plurality of receivers linked to the wireless network.
Abstract:
An access node in the boundary area of a single frequency network service area transmits a boundary indication to the mobile terminals in the boundary area to notify the mobile terminals that they are approaching the boundaries of the single frequency network. The mobile terminals receiving the boundary indications may then take steps to maintain continuity of broadcast services when the mobile terminals leave the service area of the single frequency network.
Abstract:
[Problem] It is hard to apply the A-VSB transport system to a mobile broadcast. [Solution] Provided are a method and apparatus for transporting a broadcast and a method and apparatus for receiving a broadcast. In the method of transporting a broadcast service for mobile communications, the method includes generating an encapsulation packet including configuration information adaptive to application data that is to be transmitted and the application data; generating transport packets having data regarding the encapsulation packet by dividing the encapsulation packet into predetermined-sized packets, where the transport packets include information regarding the structures of the transport packets; and generating service configuration information including information set about a channel having the transport packets, and including the service configuration information in a service information channel at a predetermined location from among at least one transport channel on a transport stream. Accordingly, it is possible to efficiently use a data region and increase the speed of data transmission.
Abstract:
A device for efficient tuning to broadcast signals, comprising means for receiving a message comprising broadcast related information. The device is able to request via the mobile communications network, a message comprising broadcast or programme related information, which can be used in deciding to switch to a specific programme.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a DVB-H CBMS system by which a user can continue to view a program being in service even when the transport stream or IP platform changes while the user views the program. In the DVB-H CBMS system, the system transmits service mapping information according to transport streams or IP platforms to the terminal, so that the system can provide a service without interruption to the terminal even when a user of the terminal moves out of a current cell or network into a new cell or network while receiving a service that the user selected.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for adaptive broadcast transmission. A broadcast transmission can be received (620). Insufficiency of a broadcast channel quality can be determined (630). A negative acknowledgement signal can be sent on a common uplink channel in response to determining the broadcast channel quality is insufficient (640). The negative acknowledgement signal can be received on the common uplink channel at another location (830), the negative acknowledgement signal indicating broadcast channel quality is insufficient. The broadcast channel quality can be adjusted in response to receiving the negative acknowledgement signal (840).
Abstract:
Digital multimedia is broadcast to wireless receivers on a unidirectional wireless broadcast channel, while control data necessary for presentation of the multimedia is provided on a bidirectional, point-to-point wireless link.
Abstract:
Method and a system for providing signaling in cellular telephone system providing broadcast services to fully integrate broadcast services with the services provided by the cellular telephone systems. The signaling method coordinate interaction between an access network and the subscriber station to allowing the subscriber station to decode the broadcast service, to receive paging messages while receiving the broadcast service, to properly transition between operation states, and other functions known to one of ordinary skills in the art.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to associating a received command with a control such as a push button on a mobile telecommunication device, and enabling an action associated with the command to be performed when the control is later activated. The command may be received from another mobile device or remote computer. The actions that may be associated with the performance instruction include tuning to a broadcast such as a radio or television, browsing a web site or hyperlinked text, and tuning to a streamed broadcast over a network, such as the Internet. The command button can be a physical element such as the key on a keypad or a virtual button on a display.
